Woman of Achievement Nominee - Mrs. Marcie Bramlett Cope
It takes one to know one! My community service initiative centers around mentorship, and one of the significant events I’ve experienced while serving as Miss Golden Corner’s Teen is meeting a former Miss Golden Corner, who shares my passion for mentoring. Overall, she has found a large part of her identity in supporting and loving children. Marcie Bramlett Cope embodies the qualities of a lady deserving of the Woman of Achievement Award due to her tireless efforts to support and advance women, as well as the diverse and marginalized populations.
First, as a female who believes in the power of education and leadership, she is a Clemson University graduate with a degree in business, which she used in her professional life. An entrepreneur at the age of eighteen, Marcie helped to break the “glass ceiling” by purchasing and operating her very own dance studio, Unlimited Talent, in Seneca, SC, for which she was honored by the city for promoting city development. She has mentored hundreds of young girls through the arts. Her teams won numerous state and national awards, and she was recognized for her contributions as a dance teacher by receiving the Marjorie Perry National Spirit Award in 2008.
Her experience as a two-time contestant in the Miss SC Pageant (Miss Oconee 1993 and Miss Golden Corner 1996) led to her being recognized as an advocate for women, especially those marginalized by domestic violence. She was named in the top five community service finalists in the state platform of domestic violence. Her personal platform during competition supported women of breast cancer, as she promoted the awareness and prevention of the horrific disease. In fact, as the owner of Unlimited Talent, during October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month, she gave free dance lessons to any students whose mother brought in documentation that she had completed a yearly mammogram. It was also during her two years as a contestant that she promoted children’s literacy and was a guest reader at many schools. She was eventually asked back to volunteer with the Miss SC Pageant as the official choreographer for four years! She choreographed all the production numbers for all contestants, as well as the Palmetto Princess participants. During that time, she also promoted women’s leadership in the arts as the official choreographer for the Clemson University Dancers for four years.
She has become a dedicated mother to two sons but has maintained her spirit of giving back, especially to those diverse populations who are in need. For many years, she has been the organizer of Grace’s Closet, an Oconee County program which sets up a room in every school in the county. It is in this room that students in need gain access to clothing, hygiene products, and prom dresses for young ladies who can’t afford them. In addition to the school volunteerism with this program, Marcie has also served as the School Improvement Council President at each school her sons attended AND was recognized at EACH school as Volunteer of the Year! Furthermore, because of her belief in empowering women, she has volunteered the past two years to judge the Palmetto Girls State interviews at Seneca High School and West-Oak High School. This prestigious program is a week-long summer session for young girls to learn about government and women in leadership. Her volunteerism carries over into her faith, as she is also the children’s music coordinator at Utica Baptist Church’s annual Vacation Bible School.
It’s easy to see why Marcie Bramlett Cope was once named one of Eckerd Drug Company’s (now known as CVS Pharmacy) top 100 Women in America! She has devoted her personal life, her career, and her faith to service, especially service to women and those diverse populations who are less fortunate. She makes me proud; she makes her community proud, and she, ultimately, makes our state proud. It is with great enthusiasm that I nominate her for the Miss SC Woman of Achievement Award.
