The Northwest Hospital Foundation is recognized by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) as a tax-exempt charitable organization by the Internal Revenue Code section 501 (c)(3). The Northwest Hospital Foundation is considered a "public charity" by virtue of its direct support of UPMC Northwest Hospital, which is also tax-exempt. Our philanthropic philosophy is to thoughtfully enhance the health care
of our community by making financial resources available to UPMC Northwest in its mission to deliver high-quality services to the residents of the region. We will fund programs and activities that go above and beyond what an established health care system would generally be expected to provide. Most often, that purpose is accomplished through fund development which supports capital purchases/improvements, technology, equipment, education, care for indigent patients and patient hardship needs. All gifts are processed through the Foundation, where they are recorded, donors recognized, and gifts earmarked for specific purposes and are carefully monitored. Each year, the Foundation provides approximately $250,000 to UPMC Northwest in uncompensated care for indigent patients and over $200,000 in new technology. In addition, smaller donations are made to areas where donors have directed specific funding. Sources of funds coming into the Foundation for disbursement include individual, corporate, group donations, special fundraisers and grants. The Foundation is governed by a board of directors and has two full-time staff. The Foundation administrative offices are located at Seneca Place professional building. Theresa Edder is the Executive Director and can be reached at (814)676-7145.
