The Knights and Orchids Society Inc. TKO

The Knights and Orchids Society Inc. TKO TKO was founded in 2012. We are community people serving the communities that we represent.

The Knights & Orchids Society is a Black trans led nonprofit organization in Alabama that builds the power of TLGB+ Black people across the South by providing a spectrum of health and wellness services. | tkosociety.org/donate The Knights and Orchids Society (TKO) envisions a future where Transgender, Q***r, Bis*xual, Le***an, and Gay Black people are empowered to live full and healthy lives free

from harm. Our mission is to build the power of LGBTQ+ Black people across the South by providing a spectrum of health and wellness services — from free HIV/STI testing and health care coordination to safe s*x kits, emergency food/utility assistance, and support groups. In 2017, TKO became the first and only AIDS Service Organization (A*O) and STD/STI clinic in the state of Alabama founded and led by Black Trans and LGBQ+ people. Our goal is to help more Black trans, same-gender-loving, and Black q***r folks access high-quality primary care and endocrinology services. TC Caldwell (they/them) is the Executive Director and Jennine Webb (she/her) is the Co-Founder and Deputy Director of TKO.

Today's Guest, Filmmaker DW McCrary:

"If you let the Getty Museum tell it, the photographic history of q***rness only happened in NYC, SF, and LA. ... But what about the q***rness of our aunts and uncles? Where our q***rness is met on the doorsteps of Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky, Louisiana, the Carolinas, Texas or Florida. Who gets to preserve q***r memory? And who gets erased in the process?”
