Rise & Recover

We want to thank the organizers of the 2026 Accountability Court Conference for putting together a strong, meaningful week.

And to our community partners who showed up, shared, and stayed engaged, we don’t take that lightly.

This work only moves when people are willing to come together, have real conversations, and stay committed beyond the room.

We appreciate the time, the presence, and the partnership.

More from the week coming in the reel.

Today wrapped the 2026 Accountability Court Conference, and Darryl Strawberry closed it out as keynote speaker.

He shared his powerful personal story of overcoming addiction, legal troubles, and life challenges while in the public eye as a professional athlete. In his inspirational session, he reflects on the turning points that led to his recovery and renewed purpose, offering insight, hope, and encouragement for those working with individuals battling substance use and seeking a path to lasting change.

That’s the kind of message people need to hear. Especially in communities like ours.

Selma would receive this well.

We’d love to bring him here.

Rise & Recover at the 2026 Accountability Court Conference

Yesterday, our CEO, Miah Tolbert, presented at the .

She spoke about something we see every day, this work only works when people work together.

Rise and Recover Selma isn’t doing this alone. We rely on strong partnerships with people who are actually in the trenches doing the work alongside us.

That includes Dallas County Sheriff’s Department, Alethia House Treatment, Alabama Probation & Parole, Dallas County Department of Human Resources, Edmundite Missions, Summerlane Counseling, Selma Housing Authority, Selma City Schools, the 4th Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office, and Judge Vernetta Perkins-Walker.

We appreciate those who showed up, shared, and took part in the conversation about what it really takes to support people and build something that lasts.

This work is ongoing, and it takes all of us.

We join the Selma community in mourning the loss of Mark Myles, a tireless youth mentor and servant leader who dedicated his life to lifting up young people, building peace, and guiding families through challenging moments.
His work with community organizations, schools, and local churches made a real difference in countless lives.
Mark’s collaboration and partnership with Rise and Recover will be greatly missed and never forgotten.
Our hearts are with his family, friends, and the entire Selma community as we grieve this tragic loss and remember his impact.
May we honor his legacy by continuing the work of peace, dignity, and community care he championed. ❤️

We’re proud to announce the successful completion of our most recent Facilitator Training, where 21 community members were trained and certified in two of Rise & Recover’s four restorative programs. This training expands our ability to deliver trauma-informed, community-centered support for youth, emerging adults, and adults throughout Dallas County

H.E.A.T. (Habilitation Empowerment Accountability Therapy) – Adult Program
A long-term, strength-based intervention supporting adults and emerging adults navigating substance use, justice involvement, and major life transitions. H.E.A.T. emphasizes accountability, emotional awareness, and sustainable change.

H.E.A.T. for YOUTH
A youth-focused adaptation of the H.E.A.T. model designed to help young people understand behavior patterns, develop emotional regulation, and build healthier decision-making skills within a supportive group environment.

H.E.R. (Habilitation, Empowerment & Recovery) – Adult Women’s Program
A therapeutic journey designed to support women and emerging adult women in rebuilding identity, strengthening emotional stability, and developing tools for healing, recovery, and long-term personal growth.

H.E.R. for GIRLS (H4G)
A structured therapeutic program for girls ages 13–17 involved in the juvenile justice system. H4G focuses on healing, self-perception, identity formation, and supported re-entry into the community.

During this multi-day training, all 21 facilitators were trained and certified in two of the four programs.
This expanded capacity allows Rise & Recover to immediately offer new healing groups for youth, emerging adults, and adults, with additional certifications planned in the months ahead.

As this work continues, Rise & Recover will begin highlighting collaborations with organizations and community leaders supporting the implementation of H.E.A.T., H.E.A.T. for Youth, H.E.R., and H4G. These partnerships are essential to strengthening community-based healing across Central Alabama.

Rise & Recover remains committed to providing trauma-informed, evidence-informed programming that supports justice-involved youth, emerging adults, adults, families, and communities.

It’s in the storms, not the sunshine, that we discover our true strength.
Hard times don’t break you — they reveal you.
They show you who you are when comfort fades and character is all that’s left.

Rise through it. Recover from it.
And when you meet yourself in the mirror of adversity, stand tall —
because that’s where transformation begins.

Every act of discipline, every moment of healing, every boundary you set—
it all adds up. Your future self is built by the quiet choices you make right now.

Drink the water. Take the walk. Make the call. Forgive yourself.
Small steps lead to the strongest recoveries. 💪🏽
