Member Sheryl Smedley had as her speakers today Candice Collins and Dr Tiffini Maycock from UAB Family Medicine in Selma! It was quite informative bringing us up to date on the 18 resident doctors currently making Selma home while they learn the in’s and out’s of Family Medicine during a 3 year program. The doctors are in the program for 3 years and 6 new doctors start the 3 year cycle each July.

Congratulations Officer Hale!

Selma Police Officer Micah Hale still carries shrapnel in his body from a gunshot wound suffered in an ambush off Broad Street in September.

And his heart flutters when he sees headlights in his rearview mirror, like those of the car whose occupants shot at him that early morning while on patrol.

The fear isn’t crippling, he says. “Fear is what keeps you alive on the job,” Hale said with confidence and first-hand experience. “You just have to face it head on.”

Hale, 39, almost made the ultimate sacrifice that night – and for that he was honored with the Officer of the Year Award from the Selma Exchange Club.

The Selma Exchange Club will be having their "One Nation Under God" program on Nov. 28th and our guest speaker is the Honorable Bob Armstrong.
