The National Kidney Registry has now become Gray's advocate.

The story below has a linked donor application and someone will be able to donate on Gray's behalf, if they pass the medical screening. The physical is covered by Gray's insurance. It will only cost someone their time.

I hope all, who have been following me in my quest to receive a living donor kidney, are healthy, and are doing well. On January 30, I received disappointing news. After the hospital completed three long days of intensive testing, they informed me and I my Christian brother that he would not be allowed to donate his kidney. I am thankful that he was willing, but disappointed that he was not able to donate. I know that God has this in His hands. Jesus said in Mark 11:24, “Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.” I am praying, and I believe God has a plan to restore me. Because of that faith, I continue to wait Him to restore my health, by whatever means He chooses.

Just a quick update, my friends. I received a call from my transplant coordinator at VCU Medical on August 22. They have put me on their kidney transplant list, and are ready to accept donor applications on my behalf. If you feel led to be a candidate, please send me a message via Facebook Messenger, or email me at [email protected]. I will send you a QR code that links you directly to their donor application. Thank you, and may God bless you.

To everyone who has been, and continues to be in prayer for me to receive a living donor kidney, I thank you, with all of my heart. The Lord has this under his control, and by His sovereign will, I trust that He will provide, as He always has.
Why should anyone choose to donate their spare kidney, and who should not even consider it? First, anyone who has major medical issues should not consider being a donor. Diabetes is the leading cause of kidney failure, and I am thankful, and blessed to tell you that I don’t. If you are healthy, eat and exercise regularly; if you and your local doctor feel that your current health and lifestyle is what it should be, for consideration as a living donor, then you should maybe consider doing so. You might actually get a total physical and psychological exam for free, other than the expense of your time. Many get tested only to be rejected because of a condition that prevents them from donating. Many people have been saved from serious conditions that their annual wellness check would never reveal. If you have been blessed with good health, and are devoted to living a healthy lifestyle, thank our Heavenly Father, and ask Him if He is leading you to consider becoming an angel of mercy to another child of God.

Friends, I apologize for not posting anything for so long. Remembering how to do it is not something that comes naturally. This past Monday, August 5, Debra and I were at VCU Medical in Richmond, VA. They have stated that I am and ideal candidate, for kidney transplant, and that I will only need to get a current nuclear, cardiac stress test done. They gave me an order and said that it could be done locally. I am expecting to have this completed very soon, in Smithfield. For what it’s worth, please allow me to give my recommendation for VCU Medical. We were truly impressed by their procedures, and friendly manner in which they went about leading us through the process. I pray you will never need them, but if that becomes necessary, you have my recommendation.

Next Wednesday, May 8, is the day scheduled for vascular surgery. The surgeon plans to put me to sleep, and prepare me for future dialysis. I had hoped to avoid this, and still hope it will not be needed. Please pray that the Lord will stabilize my kidney function until I am blessed with a new, healthy kidney. If you are thinking you would like to donate your spare, please reach out to me at [email protected]. The donor application process can be tricky, and I will be happy to help. May God richly bless you.

The surgery is difficult and expensive, and I’ll need to take a lot of time off.

Fiction!

Today’s kidney donation surgery usually takes only a few hours and requires only a few small incisions. Most people -- 95% -- are discharged the next day.

Could you be Gray's Type O Hero?

Most healthy individuals can be living donors. While it is rare for anyone under 21 or older than 70 to be living donors, there are no age limits on living donation. As always, the health and well-being of the potential donor is considered carefully by a transplant team, so overall mental and physical health and anticipated health outcomes are more important than age. Each case is considered on its own merits.
