Selma Area Food Bank

Selma Area Food Bank The Selma Area Food Bank has been in operation since October 18,1993. It is our goal to stop hunger, right here at home. C, Selma, Alabama 36701.

We are a non-profit food bank proudly serving our neighbors in the battle against hunger and food insecurity in the Dallas, Marengo, Perry, and Wilxcox counties of Alabama since 1993. Through the years we have been able to distribute food to many people that otherwise would have gone hungry. Our service area includes 4 counties: Dallas, Wilcox, Marengo and Perry. We have almost 50 active agencies

that receive food from us and distribute to their community. The Selma Area Food Bank is a warehouse for bulk food items. The food comes from donations and local businesses. Our community is who has kept us going for so many years. We never take any donation for granted and appreciate all efforts to help the food bank grow. If you are looking for a worthwhile charity you have found a good one. We are all for sending help to the other needy areas of the world but there are things to be done here at home. Every $1 will provide 14 pounds of food. 14 pounds of food could be used to prepare several meals.Feeding America has made a huge effort to increase awareness of hunger in the United States. If you are interested in donating our Address is:
101 Ave. If you would like to help us pack boxes or distribute food we would be glad for your assistance . Our number is 334-872-4111. Monday - Wednesday 8:00-3:00 and Thursday 8:00-1:00 (CST). Thank you so much for taking an interest in our organization.

Hunger Action Month is a time to come together, raise awareness about food insecurity, and remind our neighbors that no one should have to wonder where their next meal will come from.

Food insecurity can affect anyone—families, children, seniors, veterans, and individuals in our own communities. During September, we have an opportunity to turn awareness into action and make a meaningful difference.

Here are a few ways you can help:

🥫 Donate food — Give nutritious, shelf-stable items that are needed by your local food bank.
💙 Give financially — Monetary donations help food banks purchase the food and supplies they need most.
🤝 Volunteer — Give your time to sort, pack, or distribute food.
📦 Host a food drive — Bring your workplace, school, church, civic group, or neighborhood together to collect donations.
📣 Spread the word — Share information about hunger and encourage others to get involved.
❤️ Support your neighbors — Treat everyone with dignity, compassion, and respect.

Every bag of groceries, every volunteer hour, every donation, and every conversation can make a difference.

This Hunger Action Month, let's do more than talk about hunger. Let's take action together. When we come together as a community, we can help put food on the table and hope in the hearts of our neighbors.

🍎 Knowledge Is the First Step Toward Ending Hunger 🧡

September is Hunger Action Month—a time to learn more about food insecurity and the hunger needs right here in our community.

Learning about hunger helps us understand that food insecurity is not simply about not having enough food. It can affect families, children, seniors, working individuals, and neighbors facing unexpected challenges. When we understand the realities people experience, we can respond with greater compassion and more effective support.

Why does learning matter?

📚 Learning creates understanding. Learning about food insecurity helps us recognize the challenges our neighbors may be facing.

🤝 Understanding builds compassion. Everyone deserves access to nutritious food and to be treated with dignity and respect.

💡 Compassion leads to action. When we know where the greatest needs are, we can donate, volunteer, advocate, and support programs where they can have the greatest impact.

🏘️ Action builds stronger communities. By learning about local hunger needs, we become better equipped to work together toward solutions.

This Hunger Action Month, take a moment to learn, listen, and get involved. Connect with us here at the Selma Area Food Bank and discover the hunger and food insecurity needs across Dallas, Marengo, Perry, and Wilcox counties.

Discover the needs in your community. Share what you discover. And find one meaningful way to help.

Because when we understand hunger, we can better understand our neighbors—and when we work together, we can help make sure everyone has access to the food they need. ❤️

Always great when Leith Wilson of Woodmen Life Selma drop by the Selma Area Food Bank! Leith has been a friend to SAFB from the very beginning over 33 years ago!

He and SAFB team member Jim Hadaway built over 100 boxes for future senior box distributions. And they even helped unload an after hours delivery as well!

Great job, guys!
