Today, we honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. Memorial Day is more than a long weekend — it is a day of reflection, gratitude, and remembrance for those who gave their lives protecting the freedoms we enjoy every day.

The members of the Pine Level Firefighters Association ask everyone to take a moment today to remember our fallen heroes and the families they left behind. Their courage and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

We also extend our appreciation to all military members, veterans, and first responders who continue to serve our communities and nation with honor.

This past week was a busy one for the Pine Level Fire Department!

We voted in 4 new probationary volunteer members to begin their journey with our department. We are excited to welcome these individuals and look forward to watching them grow within the fire service.

Several of our members also had the opportunity to train alongside Princeton Fire Department and other mutual aid departments on Tuesday and Wednesday night. Training together helps strengthen teamwork, communication, and preparedness between neighboring departments that work side-by-side during emergencies.

The President of the Fire Department and Fire Chief traveled to Nebraska for the final inspection of our new ladder truck. This important step ensures the apparatus meets all specifications and is ready to serve our community for years to come.

On Thursday evening and Friday morning, members assisted with the annual Ride for the Wall. Ride for the Wall is a cross-country motorcycle ride that honors veterans, promotes healing among all veterans and their families, and calls attention to those who were prisoners of war (POW) or missing in action (MIA). Thousands of riders travel from across the country to Washington, D.C. each year, stopping in communities along the route where local agencies and supporters help provide escorts, traffic control, meals, fuel stops, and hospitality. It is always an honor to support those who have served our country.

We are proud to work alongside our mutual aid partners to accomplish these things and continue serving our community together!

Last night, crews focused on catching hydrants for Monday night training!

Establishing a reliable water supply is one of the most critical tasks on the fireground. Crews worked on:
• Proper hydrant spotting and apparatus positioning
• Forward and reverse lays
• Flushing hydrants and making clean connections
• Communication between the hydrant firefighter and pump operator
• Identifying and correcting common issues like kinks and leaks

Did you know that not every fire scene requires a hydrant connection?

Some fires may be extinguished with only tank water that is on the fire engine. Also, the Incident Commander could make the decision to have fire engines share water, or use a dump tank as a water source in more rural areas that may not have fire hydrants.

Great job by all members who came out and put in the work 💪🔥
