Are you interested in prescribed burning and cultural fire? NativeWomanshare is in proud partnership with OSU Extension Fire Program and Traditional Ecological Inquiry Program (TEIP), to continue our partnership of years previous to bring cultural fire education back to the Illinois Valley. These education efforts consist of 3 days spent on the land learning from experts in their respective fields.

Ignite Prescribed Fire Skills includes a hands-on introduction to prescribed fire to learn about different fire skills from both indigenous and non-indigenous experts. These skills include operation, safety, layout and much more taking place at Siskiyou Field Institute April 3-5. To register for this training the link provided! https:beav.es/IGNITE

Taking place the weekend after is the Cultural Fire Exchange, (CFEX). The Cultural Fire Exchange is designed to provide space for TEIP Interns and families, Indigenous cultural fire practitioners, cultural bearers, tribal elders, and Indigenous youth and families to gather with allies to put good fire on the land in a community-focused, family-friendly, hands-on teaching and learning environment. At this training we will work with fire and discuss traditional fire-tended landscapes while holding space to address barriers relating to good fire and the future of culturing burning. CFEX is taking place April 10-13 at the Siskiyou Field Institute registration spots are limited and are filling fast! You can register for CFEX at this link provided. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfG-S0LyqIWX27MlchD7vBrsShFny_V6UCCGJMqWRyLcHf9ig/viewform

NativeWomanshare 2025 Recap🌱

While reflecting on all of the tragic, beautiful, and trying times of the past year we wanted to take the time to recap our 2025 as an organization and community.

As many of you know, our team endured a deep personal and professional step back with the loss of our beloved friend, cousin and teammate. A sudden and unforeseen tragedy that forced us all as a team to take time to grieve and heal.

In this healing we focused our energy to the land, working on first food planting, land restoration through cultural fire as well as tending to our indigenous garden. A primary focus this year was sharing the knowledge of cultural fire to reduce forest fire fuels and restore our lands back to the traditional care of indigenous peoples since time immemorial.

Another one of our focuses this year was internal growth and development as a team. Attending trainings such as the Offers and Needs Market and the NAN Indigenious Women Leadership Forum to help our leadership cultivate new skills.

To wrap up our year we ended 2025 with an epic Native Heritage Month Celebration hosting the 2nd Annual Kerbyville Community Powwow in Cave Junction. After a year of great community loss we saw a need for community healing, and this powwow was just that! Bringing together the most powerful medicines, dance, and prayer. Seeing how loud and proud NDN Country turned up in this small community was such a sight to see and what a huge honor and blessing to these lands!

While we did not accomplish all we set out too, 2025 reminded us of our greatest asset as indigenous people and that is resiliency.‼️

This year NativeWomanshare as a team plans to strive forward continuing our work from this year with many new and exciting things upon the horizon! 🔥

Holay! Kerbyville Community Powwow and Native Heritage Festival does it again! 💯 There are no words for how powerful our community is when we gather to pray, dance and celebrate. Thank you to everyone who traveled near & far to dance, drum, helpers and support. Thank you to our hard working committee, to the SOU Samoan dance team, to our MC Henry, to our veterans & elders, to our MMIP awareness speakers, to 2 8 Tha Native & Tha Flo for finishing the night with style and to our very own Alyssa Lake for the dedicated organizing. Thank you to all our sponsors.

Native culture is best when shared with pride. Thank you to Illinois Valley for its beautiful lands, waters, and for receiving our Indigenous culture with love. We hope you came away healthier and with stories to tell.

Happy Indigenous Heritage Month, everyone.

This previous week Nativewomanshare had the immense honor of attending the Native Action Network’s 21st Annual Native Woman Leadership Forum at Muckleshoot Casino in Washington! At the forum we spent our time attending leadership trainings culturally specific to our indigenous women and two spirit relatives in leadership. At the forum we had the opportunity to fill our hearts and spirits with the healing medicine of sisterhood. This trip was just what we needed only 18 days away from our 2nd Annual Kerbyville Community Powwow and Native Heritage Festival! A huge thank you to Native Action Network for this incredible opportunity and experience.
