Last C Platoon rotation, personnel focused on extrication training.
This scenario involved 2 Engine Companies and 2 Medic Companies, with a staggered scene arrival, for an MVA with entrapment. Personnel were tasked with rescuing a patient entrapped by the dashboard and a second patient whose arm was trapped underneath one of the vehicles. To further complicate the scenario the vehicles were pushed up against a tree line to restrict access forcing personnel to think outside of the box.
Key points of training were effective communication, tasking roles and executing roles proficiently, ex*****on of several extrication techniques, integration of pre-hospital care and positive patient outcomes.
High acuity low occurrence (HALO) events are typically more complex. This type of training allows mistakes to be made on the training ground so we can ensure efficiency and proficiency on the rescue ground.
Several hours after this training was completed crews were tasked with a real world scenario very similar to this one highlighting the importance of continuous training.
