The Seguin Premier Toastmasters met on Wednesday, June 21st, with President Connly Willmann opening the meeting with a quote from Conrad Hilton: "Success seems to be connected with action. Successful people keep moving. They make mistakes, but they don't quit."

After the Pledge of Allegiance to the U.S. Flag, Luis A. Sanchez and Brett Dillon were recognized as guests.

With the Toastmaster Year ending on June 3Oth, the Seguin Premier Toastmasters deemed it an excellent time to evaluate the club, specifically, how it is benefitting the members. This evaluation process was done Table Topics style. Those participating included Richard Brewer, Gwenn Long, Ana Mendez, Dina Dillon, Connly Willmann, and G.K. Willmann. Both guests also participated in the follow-up discussion.

Richard Brewer served as the Timer, and Dina Dillon was the Ah Counter/Grammarian.

The next meeting will be on July 5th, 6:30 pm., in the GVEC Community Room at Seguin.

The Seguin Premier Toastmasters met on June 7th with President Connly Willmann gaveling the meeting to order. The inspirational thought was "What a beautiful world it would be if people had hearts like dogs." (Author Unknown). Brett Dillon was welcomed as a guest.

G.K. Willmann served as the Toastmaster of the Day and began her comments with a light-hearted message: "On a page for beginning artists, one asked, 'Any suggestions for painting dogs?' Another responded, 'Wait until they're asleep.'"

Raj Velkur was the first speaker of the evening and shared varying impressive thoughts about artificial intelligence, quantum computers, etc. Richard Brewer was his Speech Evaluator.

Richard Brewer was the second speaker with an educational message about "Building a House". He outlined key aspects in coordinating contractors and mentioned that, even with good planning, things will come up. Just be prepared to handle those unexpected issues. His speech evaluation was done by the members.

As the Table Topics Master, Daniel Meyers led the impromptu speaking by letting participants "spin a computer wheel" for a topic. Those participating were Raj Velkur, Richard Brewer, Connly Willmann, Dina Dillon, and G.K Willmann.

General Evaluator Connly Willmann led the evaluation portion of the meeting and called on the TImer's Report from Dina Dillon who noted that the times were observed, with one minor exception. Ah Counter/Grammarian Daniel Meyers gave his report of "filler word" usage as well as one grammatical incident. G.K. Willmann had provided the Word of the Day, companion, which was used a couple of times.

During the business portion of the meeting, the club discussed purchasing an appropriate table-top lectern. Upon a motion by Dina Dillon, and second by Daniel Meyers, the club authorized the purchase of a table-top lectern. Sergeant-at-Arms Richard Brewer will handle this activity.

The next meeting is scheduled for June 21st, 6:30 pm, in the GVEC Community Room in Seguin.

The Seguin Premier Toastmasters met on Wednesday, May 17, with President Connly Willmann opening the meeting with an inspirational thought by Jim Lovell: "There are people who make things happen, there are people who watch things happen, and there are people who wonder what happened. To be successful, you need to be a person who makes things happen." Following the Pledge of Allegiance, guests Janie Mendez and Brett Dillon were introduced.

Daniel Meyers served as the Toastmaster of the Day. Janie Mendez offered a Humor Moment about her recent dental office experiences.

Daniel Meyers was the first scheduled Speaker and shared interesting information about his childhood and background. His father was in the Air Force and his mother has exceptional cooking skills. Dina Dillon was his Speech Evaluator.

Ana Mendez took another step in her speaking career by asking for an impromptu topic from her mother -- Ana called it "Mother's Choice". Mother Janie Mendez asked Ana to tell the group how she planned to use what she has learned in Toastmasters. Ana mentioned how coming to Toastmasters has helped her overcome shyness and how her attendance continues to help her build confidence in her speaking abilities. Richard Brewer was her Speech Evaluator.

Richard Brewer was the third scheduled speaker with an attention-getting title of "Let's Get Addicted". He talked about how it takes 21 days to form a habit,whether it is a good habit or a bad one. He encouraged everyone to apply that principle to learning, to becoming a better speaker, and to simply love what's good for us and to make a difference. He had a group evaluation.

Table Topics Master Dina Dillon brought a recycled bag of some small common items. She asked for the impromptu speakers to reach in the bag, grab an item, and then talk about it. Those bravely participating in the exercise were Janie Mendez, Connly Willmann, Daniel Meyers, and Ana Mendez.

During the overall evaluation phase of the meeting, General Evaluator Connly Willmann called for reports relating to speaker timing and grammar usage. Timer and Ah Counter/Grammarian G.K. Willmann reported that everyone had honored the suggested speaking times. She mentioned that members are making progress toward eliminating crutch words when speaking, and she reminded everyone to be cautious about word redundancy (for example saying "more better").

Daniel Meyers had provided the Word of the Day, engender (a verb meaning to produce or to make), which was used seven times throughout the meeting.

The next meeting is scheduled for 6:30 pm, June 7, in the GVEC Community Room, 927 SH 46N, Seguin. Guests are welcome.

The Seguin Premier Toastmasters met on May 3rd with President Connly Willmann opening the meeting quoting an inspirational thought authored by Will Rogers: "Even if you're on the right track, you'll get run over if you just sit there."

President Willmann served as the Toastmaster of the Day and recognized Brett Dillon as a guest at the meeting.

For the Toastmaster Moment, Daniel Meyers reminded everyone that May 4th would be a day for fans of Star Wars and read some quotes by Yoda.

Dina Dillon was the first speaker of the evening and kept everyone's attention with her non-traditional "Family Recipe" for Peach Cobbler made with biscuits on a stove top. Richard Brewer was her Speech Evaluator.

Richard Brewer was the second speaker and explained the difference between "Free Enterprise and Socialism". The group provided valuable feedback and appreciated the education.

Table Topics Master G.K. Willmann led the impromptu speaking by asking for comments on the recently announced upcoming Toastmaster International membership dues increase. Each one present shared varying thoughts relating to how the group helps members build confidence in speaking as well as broadens knowledge on a variety of topics.

Timer Connly Willmann noted that everyone followed the speaking time guidelines. Ana Mendez had provided a fun Word of the Day "palsy-walsy" (an adjective that describes someone or something that is very friendly or intimate). She also served as the Ah Counter/Grammarian.

The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, May 17th, 6:30 pm, in the GVEC Community Room, 927 SH 46 North, Seguin.

The Seguin Premier Toastmasters met on Wednesday, April 19, with President Connly Willmann opening the meeting using an inspirational thought authored by Mark Twain: "Give every day the chance to become the most beautiful of your life". Brett Dillon was welcomed as a guest.

Raj Velkur served as the Toastmaster of the Day. G.K. Willmann provided the Toastmaster Moment by sharing a cartoon to remind everyone to be careful of the words you speak and how the listener might interpret them,

The first speaker of the evening was Raj Velkur who bravely asked for an audience topic and was promptly given one which led him to share his "Latest Cooking Experience". He told the audience how he prepared a tasty fish dish using a new recipe. He did not provide samples, just made everyone hungry. His Speech Evaluator was Ana Mendez.

The second scheduled speaker was Gwenn Long who chose "Motivation" as her topic, primarily because it was imperative for her to get motivated and document some requested work goals. The audience enjoyed the topic and certainly could relate to her situation. Her Speech Evaluator was Richard Brewer.

Table Topics Master G.K. Willmann led the impromptu speaking which challenges a person to speak one-to-two minutes off-the-cuff. Those participating were Richard Brewer, Raj Velkur, Dina Dillon, Gwenn Long, and Ana Mendez.

Dina Dillon served as the General Evaluator and called on Connly Willmann for the Timer's Report. Connly commented that the suggested speaking times were honored quite well. G.K. Willmann reported the Word of the Day, "trivial" (not important), was used at least seven times. G.K. also gave the Ah Counter/Grammarian's report without any excoriating comments.

The President mentioned that at the April 5th meeting, the Nominating Committee's Report suggested that the current club officers continue for the 2023-2024 Toastmaster Year. No other nominations were voiced. Following a motion by Richard Brewer, with a second by Gwenn Long, the officers elected by acclamation for the 2023-2024 Toastmaster Year are Sergeant-At-Arms Richard Brewer, Treasurer Gwenn Long,, Secretary G.K. Willmann, Vice President Public Relations Dina Dillon, Vice President Membership Dina Dillon, Vice President Education G.K. Willmann, and President Connly Willmann.

The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, May 3, 6:30 p.m., in the GVEC Community Room, 927 SH 46N, Seguin. Guests are welcome to attend.

The Seguin Premier Toastmasters met on April 5, 2023, with President Connly Willmann opening the meeting with an inspirational quote from Lady Bird Johnson: "Where flowers bloom, so does hope". Dina Dillon was introduced as the Toastmaster of the Day. G.K. Willmann provided the Toastmaster Moment.

Ana Mendez was the evening's first scheduled speaker with "My New Project". She told about the four chicks and two ducklings she currently is raising, plus an expected four more chicks to join the flock. Ana couldn't help smiling as she mentioned holding the little creatures in her hand. She had a group evaluation.

Richard Brewer was the next scheduled speaker with "Customer Service". Richard gave examples of how in-home technicians can build a customer relationship of trust and confidence, He closed by calling attention to how important it is that the customer feels good about the work a technician did while on their premises. He had a group evaluation.

Raj Velkur served as the Table Topics Master and led the impromptu speaking practice by having the participants randomly pick a past year and then tell about something that happened in that year relating to the individual. Those participating were Daniel Meyers, Richard Brewer, Dina Dillon, and Ana Mendez.

Vickie Cusack served as the General Evaluator and called on Connly Willmann for the Timer's Report. He noted that the members had observed the recommended speaking times quite well. Daniel Meyers provided the Word of the Day - tactile - which was used only two times. Ah Counter/Grammarian G.K. Willmann reported on the crutch words used. None were used excessively, however, "and" was used several times as an unnecessary "filler word".

The Nominating Committee reported having contacted the membership about serving as officers for the 2023-2024 Toastmaster Year starting this coming July 1. Based on the response, the Committee recommended keeping the current officers for the next year.

The next meeting will be on Wednesday, April 19, 6:30 pm, in the GVEC Community Room, 927 SH 46N, Seguin, TX 78155. Guests are welcome.

The Seguin Premier Toastmasters met on Wednesday, March 15, with President Connly Willmann opening the meeting with an inspirational thought from Thomas Jefferson: "Nothing can stop the man with the right mental attitude from achieving his goal. Nothing on earth can help the man with the wrong attitude."

Guests at the meeting were Brett Dillon as well as Ariana Davila, a senior from Navarro ISD. Vickie Cusack was recognized as a new member.

Richard Brewer served as the Toastmaster of the Day. He called on Ana Mendez for a Humor Moment and she shared a fun moment about what she thought was a boiled egg, but it wasn't.

The first speaker of the day was guest Ariana Davila who chose to practice her reading skills in preparation for UIL Competition. Members gave her feedback and encouragement for the competition.

Vickie Cusack was the second speaker with an informative topic, "Tax Diversify Your Retirement Income". She shared interesting tidbits to consider when saving for retirement. Richard Brewer was her Speech Evaluator.

As the Table Topics Master, Dina Dillon led the impromptu speaking with an interesting approach to determining the topic for speaking for one to two minutes. The group chose ten letters consisting of vowels and consonants. From those ten letters, participants had a few seconds to make a word and then use that word as the speaking topic. Those participating were Richard Brewer,. Gwenn Long, Ana Mendez, Vickie Cusack, Daniel Meyers, Ariana Davila, and G.K. Willmann. .

Toastmaster of the Day Brewer called on Connly Willmann for the Timer's Report. Daniel Meyers gave a brief report as Ah Counter/Grammarian, and Gwenn Long reported on the usage of the Word of the Day, ambiguity (something that does not have a clear meaning).

Toastmaster International dues need to be paid before the end of March.

The President reminded everyone that a Nominating Committee was needed to nominate officers for the next Toastmaster Year (July 2023 - June 2024). Richard Brewer, Dina Dillon, and Gwenn Long volunteered to serve on the Nominating Committee.

The next meeting will be on April 5th, 6:30 pm, in the GVEC Community Room, 927 SH 46N, Seguin.

The Seguin Premier Toastmasters met on Wednesday, March 1, in the GVEC Community Room in Seguin with President Connly Willmann presiding. The Inspirational Thought was authored by Franklin D. Roosevelt: "In the truest sense, freedom cannot be bestowed, it must be achieved." Guests at the meeting included Brett Dillon as well as prospective member Vickie Cusack.

Dina Dillon was introduced as the Toastmaster of the Day and had chosen the color "Green" as the theme of the day. She shared interesting tidbits relating to the color green.

Daniel Meyers provided the Toastmaster Moment by unwinding some "Technology Funnies".

Ana Mendez was the first scheduled speaker who spoke about "My Favorite Wrestler". She has enjoyed watching the sport for many years and was thrilled when she actually met her favorite wrestler, "The Undertaker". Richard Brewer was her Speech Evaluator.

Richard Brewer was the next speaker and chose to practice a "Toast" that he plans to give at an upcoming wedding. He very ably recalled childhood memories of the prospective groom and also expressed his heartfelt happiness in how the young man has grown into a respectful adult. Gwenn Long was his Speech Evaluator.

As Table Topics Master, Dina Dillon led the impromptu speaking which encourages participants to speak one-to-two minutes off-the-cuff about a variety of topics. Those participating were Gwenn Long, Daniel Meyers, Richard Brewer, and G.K. Willmann.

General Evaluator G.K. Willmann called on Connly Willmann for the Timer's Report who noted that everyone had honored the suggested speaking times for the respective roles. Ah Counter/Grammarian Vickie Cusack mentioned the "filler words" used unnecessarily. Vickie had also provided the Word of the Day, subsequent, which was used only once. (That word may surface again as the Word of the Day!)

Dina Dillon mentioned that the Lone Star Round-Up Speech and Debate officials had contacted the club for judges on March 30, 31, and April 1. Any Toastmaster interested can contact Dina for more details.

Toastmaster International dues for April-September can now be paid by individual members online or by contacting Treasurer Gwenn Long.

President Willmann mentioned that a Nominating Committee will be formed at the next meeting which will be on March 15, 6:30 p.m., in the GVEC Community Room, 927 SH 46N, Seguin.

Guests are welcome to attend. Please do not let role titles like Speech Evaluator or General Evaluator prevent you from coming to discover how attending Toastmaster meetings is not only helpful, but also informative and entertaining.

The Seguin Premier Toastmasters met on Wednesday, February 15, with President Connly Willmann opening the meeting with an Inspirational Quote from Abraham Lincoln: "The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time". Following the Pledge of Allegiance, Gwenn Long was introduced as the Toastmaster of the Day.

G.K. Willmann provided a short Humor Moment using a cartoon in which the little boy asks innocently, "What's a phone book?"

The first speaker of the evening was Vickie Cusack who gave her Icebreaker. She shared interesting information about her childhood years as well as a bit of history about what was happening in the world at that time. She considers herself a "life-long learner". Dina Dillon was her Speech Evaluator.

Richard Brewer was the second speaker of the evening with an informational session about "Wi-Fi". He used props to illustrate how wi-fi works and emphasized that the placement of the router is crucial for good reception. Daniel Meyers was his Speech Evaluator.

Table Topics Master Ana Mendez led the impromptu speaking using a Valentine's Day theme. Those participating included Gwenn Long, RIchard Brewer, Daniel Meyers, Dina Dillon, Vickie Cusack, and G.K Willmann.

During the evaluation phase of the meeting, General Evaluator G.K. WIllmann called on Connly Willmann for the Timer's Report who noted that speaking times were observed (for the most part). As Ah Counter/Grammarian Dina Dillon mentioned that some "filler words" were used, particularly "ah" and "um". Daniel Meyers had provided the Word of the Day, "gambit" (something done or said in order to gain an advantage or to produce a desired effect), which was used about five times during the meeting.

Under the business portion of the meeting, the club voted to move to a different location. Starting with the March 1st meeting, the club will meet in the GVEC Community Room at 927 SH 46N in Seguin. The starting time will remain at 6:30 p.m. Guests are welcome!

UPDATE
WE ARE MOVING LOCATIONS
A vote was taken Wednesday to move to GVEC Community Room for our meetings.

We had meet there prior to 2020- then no community members could use the facility due to covid. GVEC has now opened it back up for use.

Only the location will change, we will continue to meet at 6:30-7:30pm.

Our next meeting will be March 1st- come join us!
