Founded in 1933, the Rotary Club of Seguin is one of the largest in District 5840. With members spanning three generations, this club has the energy and depth of experience needed to make it an integral part of our local community, a long-standing contributor to the district and a source of support for the world of Rotary International. The club has provided District 5840 with five District Govern
ors over the years (W.L. Ray, 1956-57; Eddie Klein, 1971-72; Theos Morck, 1979-80; Eugene A. Dietert, 1990-91; and William S. “Bill” Dean, 1998-99), and Assistant District Governor Mark Williams. The mission of Rotary is in its motto, “Service Above Self.” The values of Rotary are in its Four-Way Test. Is it the Truth? 2.) Is it Fair to all concerned? 3.) Will it build Goodwill and better Friendships? 4.) Will it be Beneficial to all concerned? The Rotary Club of Seguin tries to live the motto and answer the Four-Way Test through the projects it implements, the people it seeks to help and the informal good-natured fellowship that its members share. Each year our club awards scholarship funds to area high-school graduates who are beginning their college careers. In the spring of 2010, the total amount awarded exceeded $30,000. Meanwhile, the club donated more than $9,000 to local community service and charitable organizations to help them succeed in feeding and finding shelter for people in need, providing activities and various types of support for young people in need in our community, and supporting other civic and cultural activities designed to enhance the quality of life where we live. Most of the money for such contributions comes from the annual fundraiser the club holds each fall. With contacts developed through club members, and with support from the Rotary Foundation, we have reached out in cooperation with sister Rotary clubs in Mexico and Honduras to help provide local populations with clean healthy water and medical facilities designed to improve care for pregnant mothers, infants and young children. Members also give of their time and their labor to work on projects that boost community spirit, enhance economic development including the annual Freedom Fiesta downtown, Habitat for Humanity and the Walnut Branch Cleanup Project. Our club’s members include businessmen & women, educators, civic leaders and even some retirees who continue to contribute to the mission and the purpose of the club, not least of which is fellowship and a sense of belonging to an organization that is based upon sound principles, dedicated service, developing friendships and mutual respect.
