Born from a promise. A promise that Veterans who served in distant conflicts should never return home to face their challenges alone. Since 1899, generations of combat Veterans have stood together to secure earned benefits, strengthen their communities and advocate on behalf of all Veterans through membership in the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW)
To qualify for VFW membership, an individual must meet two requirements:
1. Honorable Service. Must currently serve in the U.S. Armed Forces or have been discharged under Honorable or General (Under Honorable Conditions) status.
2. Qualifying Service. Must have served in a war, campaign or expedition on foreign soil or in hostile waters. This may be established through:
• An authorized campaign medal or qualifying badge
• Hostile Fire Pay or Imminent Danger Pay
• Service in Korea for 30 consecutive or 60 nonconsecutive days
This information is typically found on a DD-214 or other official military documentation. Learn more at www.texasvfw.org.
“Foreign Wars” describes the shared service that qualifies someone for membership, but the VFW’s purpose reaches much further. Our mission is to foster camaraderie among Veterans of overseas conflicts, serve Veterans, the military and our communities, and advocate on behalf of all Veterans.
Whether your service belongs to a campaign of the past, the operations of today or missions yet to come, the VFW provides a place to continue serving. Together, members preserve the legacy of those who came before them, protect the benefits Veterans have earned and help ensure future generations never have to fight alone after coming home.
Your service still matters. Your experience still has purpose. Your next mission begins here.
