A Small Project with Big Impact in Skagit County!
In February, we completed work on Quarry Trail in partnership with the Port of Skagit, laying the groundwork for Washington Trails Association to begin construction on a technical spur leading to the top of a rocky knoll.
In early March, we crossed the road to start work on the Thompson Pond Loop Trail at Olmsted Park.
While these trails are relatively small segments, they play an important role in the larger Northern State Trail System, a project weβve been working on since 2019!
This growing forested network connects more than 1,000 acres of public land managed by Skagit County Parks and Recreation, the City of Sedro-Woolley, Washington, and the Port of Skagit.
It also links directly to nearby neighborhoods and the Cascade Trail, a rails-to-trails corridor running along Highway 20 from Sedro-Woolley to Concrete.
These connections do more than create trails, they strengthen community health, expand outdoor access, and support local economic vitality.
The Northern State Trail System offers residents an easy, everyday escape into nature, while also serving as a welcoming day-trip destination for travelers heading toward North Cascades National Park.
