Want to earn up to $100 per fish caught? A research project funded by USFWS and the Illinois DNR is paying $100 for every black carp catch, up to 10 catches a month!

As of now there is no record of a black carp being caught in Oklahoma, but recreational anglers, including bowfishers, who catch one are eligible – as long as the correct reporting procedure is followed.

Check out our release outlining how to properly report your catch and claim the prize: https://shorturl.at/R2l0t

🪲🪲Two shiny beetles are active in Kansas right now and often get confused: the Green June Beetle (Cotinis nitida) and the Japanese Beetle (Popillia japonica). Here's how to tell them apart, and why it matters:

Green June Beetle:
-Big (up to 1 inch), velvety green with bronze-brown wing covers
-Loud, bumblebee-like flyers that may (will) bump into people
-Often found swarming over turf, compost, or fruit
-Larvae crawl on their backs and tunnel in soil, creating mounds

Japanese Beetle
-Smaller (about ½ inch), with a metallic green body and bronze wings
-Feeds in groups on over 300 plant species, skeletonizing leaves
-Releases pheromones while feeding, attracting even more beetles
-Hand-picking is effective—traps can actually draw more beetles in!

Why it matters: Misidentifying these beetles can lead to ineffective control, or control when it isn't needed. Know your beetle, choose the right strategy!
