Pettis County Community Santa Making The Magic of the Season for all who Believe Community Santa is a charitable organizations whose prime focus is making Christmas wishes come true.

The process starts with families filling out applications and ensuring that those who truly need help are in fact the ones who get it as well as communicating with other local charities to ensure there is no overlapping. Through this application process volunteer workers will acquire children's wish lists for Christmas. Each child will receive 2 toys off their list, (No Video Games) a new book, a

family game, and a lovey (stuffed animal). Items are black bagged and given to parents who are then able to wrap the gifts and therefore ensured to be Santa to their child or children.

Next weekend, May 30 - bring the kids to downtown Sedalia on Saturday morning during the Scott Joplin International Ragtime Festival 2026 for a fun-filled morning of music and activities designed especially for children!

🎬 9:00 AM – Saturday Morning Cartoons with live ragtime piano accompaniment at the Liberty Center
🎉 10:00 AM – Ragtime Parade along Ohio Street
💃 10:30 AM – Kids’ Dance Lesson at the historic Fox Theater

Best of all — ALL of these activities are FREE! No tickets or reservations are required. Just come downtown and join the fun!

These family-friendly activities are a wonderful way to introduce children to the joy of music, movement, and Sedalia’s rich ragtime history. Whether your kids love cartoons, music, dancing, or just having fun, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

Did you know the Big Boy is coming through Sedalia?

Union Pacific’s famed Big Boy No. 4014 is making its way across the country in celebration of the 250th anniversary of our nation’s independence. As the largest operating steam locomotive in the world, this is a rare sight you won’t want to miss!

Big Boy will be traveling through downtown Sedalia on Tuesday, July 21. While an exact time has not been announced, there will be a scheduled whistle-stop in nearby California, Missouri from 9:00 to 9:15 a.m., before continuing on to Kansas City.
