Family and Child Development

Our Mission is “Life Without Limitations”. Our Family and Child Development programs provide many resources to help children and families with early intervention, growth, development and strengthening the parent-child bond.

First Steps is Missouri’s Early Intervention system for infants and toddlers, birth to age 3, who have delayed development or diagnosed conditions that are associated with developmental disabilities. First Steps offers coordinated services and assistance to young children with special needs and their families.

The First Steps Goal is to make sure that families have the necessary supports, services, and resources that they need to raise healthy, happy and successful children.

Children’s Therapy Center provides support to families through the First Steps system in 27 counties through Central and East Central Missouri. Through our two First Steps offices we provide Service Coordination to children in First Steps.

Referrals to the First Steps system can be made through calling, faxing or mailing the referral form to the local First Steps office.

Early Head Start is a comprehensive early learning program, focused on providing a variety of services, for income-eligible pregnant women and families with children birth to age 3. Early Head Start supports families in creating a safe, healthy and nurturing environment. We assist with access to community resources and we provide information on growth and development for children and families.

The Harris Center is a full day, full year accredited Early Care and Education program for families who work or are in school full-time. The curriculum emphasizes school readiness and parent engagement. Teachers make monthly home visits to allow parents to take the lead role in their child’s learning and they provide ongoing assessments to make sure all developmental needs are met.

Home Visitation emphasizes on parenting behaviors, child development, parent child interaction, school readiness and parent engagement. The home visitation staff provide weekly home visits, Parents as Teacher Curriculum, ongoing screenings and assessments for proper development, Infant Massage and the Doula Program.

The Child Care Partnerships include Imagination Station, Kid Konnection, Kreative Kiddos, Kenzie’s Playhouse and Honey Bear Day Care. The partnership program staff make weekly visits the partner sites and monthly visits to family’s homes. The partner sites provide developmentally appropriate, high quality childcare with an emphasis on school readiness, parent involvement and services to families.
