๐จ Neighborhood Alert: Special Election on Fire District Tax Levy โ Voting Now Open! ๐จ
Hi neighbors! Just a quick reminder that thereโs a Special Election happening now that directly impacts our community โ itโs a vote on a proposed Fire Protection District Tax Levy.
๐ณ Important Details:
* This is a Special Election, so normal polling places will NOT be open.
* Voting is open NOW through Monday, August 5th.
* You can vote in person at the County Clerkโs Office:
๐ 215 E. 5th Street
๐ Open 8:00 AMโ5:00 PM now through August 4
๐ Election Day (August 5): Open 6:00 AMโ7:00 PM
The District is proposing a $0.48 property tax levy increase, raising the total rate to $0.75 per $100 of assessed property value.
This levy, if passed, would supportโ
* 24/7 Emergency Coverage: More full-time staff for faster, around-the-clock response times.
* Modern Equipment: Replacement of aging fire trucks and life-saving gear like SCBAs.
* New Fire Stations: Expanded coverage with new stations in Central and Smithton.
* Lower Insurance Rates: Better fire protection can reduce homeowner and business premiums.
* Retention & Recruitment: Competitive pay to attract and keep skilled firefighters.
* Support for a Growing District: Additional resources to meet rising service demands.
* Fiscal Responsibility: First proposed increase in over 30 years, focused on long-term safety and efficiency.
