Over the past three weeks, our Education/Training Specialist, Mrs. Alexis, had the opportunity to teach second graders at Cracker Trail Elementary all about embryology—and what an amazing experience it’s been! 🐣

During this hands-on program, students learned the entire process from start to finish of what it takes to hatch a healthy baby chick. From properly setting up an incubator and understanding the importance of temperature and humidity, to learning the parts of an egg and how a chick develops inside, they were involved every step of the way.

We even had some fun, interactive learning moments—like making a bouncing egg, to testing the strength of an egg and exploring how something so delicate can also be incredibly strong!

One of the most exciting moments was when our very first baby chick hatched a day early! The students decided to name it “Star,” which made it even more special since it arrived on the day they were taking their STAR test—talk about perfect timing! ⭐🐥

Watching their excitement and curiosity grow throughout this experience has been the best part. These students did an egg-cellent job! 🥚💛

Our office truly enjoys bringing agriculture into the classroom and is so thankful for the opportunity to offer this program to 2nd graders each year.

It may be April Fools’ Day… but this is NO JOKE! 😄

📚 Record books are due TODAY (April 1) by 5:00 PM — no tricks, just deadlines!

Any leftover record books that haven’t been picked up since returning from the fair must be picked up by Thursday at 5:00 PM, or they’ll be discarded 🗑️

If you showed an animal at the fair and/or completed the citrus or caladium project, you’re all set — you’ve already received credit and do NOT need to resubmit 🙌

BUT… if you’re wanting year/project pins or want your record book regraded for a shot at that Top 10% trophy 🏆, you’ll need to resubmit your record book (with the cover page) by 5:00 PM TODAY!

03/31/2026

Dear 4-H Families,

We still have a large number of livestock and citrus record books at the 4-H Office that have not yet been claimed. Please note that all remaining books MUST be picked up by 5:00 PM this Thursday.

To clear space for upcoming projects, any books left after this time will unfortunately be discarded. Thank you for your prompt attention to this!

Good morning, Highlands County 4-H Members!

The annual April 1 deadline (Wednesday) is approaching. It is time for you to submit your record/project book for the year; however, there are some changes, so please read this email carefully.

REQUIRED ACTION

CLOVERBUDS (Ages 5-7): If you participated in the Caladium Contest or received a record/project book within your club, please submit this by April 1, 2026, by 5:00 PM to receive recognition at our annual awards banquet.

LIVESTOCK, CITRUS, AND/OR CALADIUM PARTICIPANTS (Ages 8+): The 4-H Office already has the list of submitted livestock record books, record of your citrus scores, and caladium scores. This means you already have credit for the year and do not need to submit your record book. HOWEVER, if you would like to make edits and resubmit in hopes of earning a top 10% trophy, year pins, and project pins, YOU MUST RESUBMIT your book by April 1, 2026, at 5:00 PM.

ALL OTHER PROJECTS NOT LISTED ABOVE (Ages 8+): You must submit your record/project book by April 1, 2026, at 5:00 PM.

ALL BOOKS SUBMITTED MUST INCLUDE THE COVER PAGE.
