WE ARE GOING TO REBUILD!!!! I would just like to give some updates to the community on the status of the rebuild project that we will be undertaking. First, a little background. When the Sportsmans VFW burnt to the ground on January 28, 2026, everything was lost. I can't list all of the items here as there was over 300 different items lost, but war medals, veterans honors and awards, taxidermy mounts, all business records, flags, guns, and alot of history, just to name a few. There is rebuild/replacement insurance on the building with limits and some contents insurance. We have only collected a portion of the insurance money, and unless we rebuild, we will not receive the balance. In saying this, the cost of rebuilding and replacing contents will exceed the maximum amount of insurance that we will receive. We will need to do a significant fundraiser along with possible grants, donations, etc to make up the difference. We plan to construct a building similar in size to the one that was destroyed. The new building will be about 72 ft x 100 ft with kitchen, bar area, bathrooms, storage rooms, stage area, dance floor, fire suppression and a capacity for around 300 people along with adequate parking. Here is a rough timeline of events: We have some preliminary drawings and ideas. We plan to get certified drawings and prints finalized in the next couple months. We would like to get our fundraising efforts going in the next few weeks. If everything works out as planned and we have adequate funding, we are hoping to start building next Spring.
I know that many of you have had some kind of great experience or memory related to the VFW. We would love to share those memories when we have a dedication of the building after it is complete. In the meantime, I will try and post updates each week or a couple times a week. Please feel free to ask questions/comments and I will try and respond if I can.
