Greetings Songbird Superheroes! With the holiday weekend upon us and beautiful weather in the forecast, many people will be heading outdoors to enjoy nature. We’d like to remind everyone to please be mindful of and respectful toward our nesting birds.
Please remember that all native songbirds, including swallows, are protected by state and federal law. It is illegal to disturb, harm, or destroy native birds or their active nests, eggs, or young.
If you observe illegal activity, please report it to your state Department of Natural Resources or U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service law enforcement. In California, violations can be reported to the California Department of Fish & Wildlife CalTIP hotline at (888) 334-2258. If possible, document the activity with photos or video and note important details such as time, date, location, license plate numbers, and descriptions of those involved. This information can assist wardens in investigating and prosecuting wildlife crimes.
If you find an injured or legitimately orphaned songbird, please text us at 707-484-6502. Injured and orphaned native birds can only be cared for by professional licensed wildlife rehabilitators, so please do not attempt to raise or treat them yourself.
