Over four decades ago, a group of forward-thinking farmers blazed trails in Sonoma County, creating a map & guide for local agriculture, inviting the public to meet their farmers and learn more about the origins of their food. These pioneers also produced the Gravenstein Apple Fair to celebrate the heirloom apple and Sonoma County’s rural traditions. This was back in 1973, before the advent of far

mers’ markets, CSAs and campaigns to shop locally. Over the years, some of the farmer members have changed, but the organizing mission has remained the same: to ensure the continuing economic viability of Sonoma County agriculture by instilling an appreciation of ag as a vital part of our community/lifestyle. Founded as a 501(c)(6) nonprofit organization, Sonoma County Farm Trails membership recently voted to amend our charter. We hope to further cultivate community by facilitating both farmer-to-farmer and farmer-to-public educational forums, as well as offering relevant events to foodies and aspiring producers through our new "Farm Club" and our upcoming "Barn Shop." We will continue to serve as a local resource, hosting Sonoma County's premier online agricultural guide, producing the Gravenstein Apple Fair, and promoting seasonal farm tours like "Weekends along the Farm Trails" in the Fall and "Blossoms, Bees & Barnyard Babies" in the Spring.

CUVER Belgian Brewers: Friday food truck & tasty beers on the patio, today, 4-7pm; Windsor.

Gather Sebastopol: Two workshops! Today, 4-6pm, follow Farm Trails member Kim from Land + Local teaches the art of botanical syrups & shrubs. Saturday, 4-6pm, learn how to make cultured dairy products. Register online.

Kiss The Flower Honey Co.: Sunday, 9am-2:30pm, with a booth at The All Things Herb Fair, across the street from the Sebastopol Farmers' Market.

Horse & Plow Winery: Sunday, 2-4pm, live music with Spike Sikes & The Get Real Gone at the patio of the tasting barn; tickets online; Sebastopol.

McEvoy Ranch: Today, 4-6pm, Gather at the Grove Fridays kicks off, with golden hour sips by the pond. Saturday, 2-4pm, Build Your Own Grazing Board hands-on workshop with author Bebe Carminito. Register online; Petaluma.

Preston Farm and Winery: Sunday, Jim's Jug Day returns! Bring your jug or get a new one and fill up on the latest wine blend while chatting with farmers Lou and Susan Preston; Healdsburg.

Cotati! Today's the day to support local, eat fresh, and join your community to enjoy where you live! The Cotati Certified Farmers Market kicks off the season today, June 3, through Sept. 30, 4:30-7:30pm at La Plaza Park. Bring a blanket to enjoy the park while watching live music every Wednesday. The best hot food dinner options you can find on a Wednesday in Sonoma County all in one great location. Plus they have a nice group of farmers coming to join us this year and of course sweet treats to enjoy! Artisans, local businesses, nonprofits, and more are the icing on the cake!

School Garden Network is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year! What started out as an informal gathering of garden educators now reaches more than 50,000 students a year in more than 50 schools throughout Sonoma and Marin Counties. To mark this milestone, we visited with Executive Director Sue Davis during SGN's popular Grow Kit distribution in April to learn more about Sue’s background, the founding of SGN, and its positive impacts on the next generation. Tuesdays in summer just got better as the Forestville Certified Farmers Market opens for the season beginning June 2, 4:30-7:30pm! Bring your family and friends to the beautiful Oaks Park downtown for fresh local produce, great food, lots of crafts vendors, and a glass of wine or ice cold beer. Live music every week, kicking off with the Barn Wreckers this Tuesday at 4:30.

North, south, east, or west: No matter where you live in Sonoma County, farm-fresh, locally grown produce is close by! Here are some picks for this weekend and beyond. Be sure to visit FarmTrails.org to find your neighborhood farm stand, farmers' market, CSA, and local grocery!

NORTH: Little Saint Farm is bringing their Week 5 veggies, fruit & flower harvest to the Little Saint Healdsburg patio. Special guests for Saturday: Liza Gershman signing copies of Farm + Market Healdsburg, and the season's first summer squash! Sat 8:30am-12pm. (Pic 7)

SOUTH: Tenfold Farmstand is packed with early-summer produce, including berries, greens, corn, garlic scapes, cabbage, snap peas, summer squash, greens, okra, celtuce, carrots, cukes, and lots more. Thurs-Sun 10am-4pm. (Pics 3 & 4)

WEST: SRJC Shone Farm veggie CSA signups are now open! Each weekly CSA share features a vibrant selection of organically grown, hand-harvested produce, reflecting the diversity and seasonality of their working farm. More than just a box of food, your share is a direct investment in hands-on agricultural education—supporting student internships while connecting you to where your food is grown. EAST: Sonoma Garden Park's weekly Harvest Market is a great place to pick up produce, flowers, and eggs harvested from their 6.1-acre sustainable garden, plus local honey and olive oil. Sat 9am-1pm. (Pics 5 & 6)

Things are heating up at Ethic Ciders just in time for summer!

On Saturday, May 30, 12-5pm, kick off the season in style at their Summer Celebration in the orchard. Enjoy an unforgettable afternoon with live tunes from Sebastian St. James, fresh apple libations crafted just for the occasion, and A&M BBQ coming to serve up some tasty BBQ creations. No tickets necessary!

And on the second Thursday of every month from June to September, Ethic is hosting its Cider Salon series—an intimate gathering under the apple trees featuring up-and-coming musical artists in a relaxed orchard setting, including singer-songwriter Barb Murphy on June 11, 5-7pm. Sip on ciders and other libations as you unwind, discover new sounds, and settle into the easy rhythm of a summer night. No tickets necessary!

West County folks, the day you've been waiting for is almost here! The Occidental Community Farmers Market opens for the season Thursday, May 28, 4-8pm, in downtown Occidental. You'll find lots of local farmers (including fellow Farm Trails members) offering fresh produce, flowers, honey, meat, and wool, plus prepared and hot food vendors and excellent live music by local talent! Open every Thursday through October.

We loved opening the Sunday edition of the Press Democrat to read this feature highlighting Farm Trails members School Garden Network and Solar Punk Farms on their collaborative summer garden camp! With a focus on environmental education and inclusivity, the camp will bring middle schoolers to this innovative regenerative farm in Guerneville for a week of fun and a lifetime of inspiration. We'll be sharing a Member Spotlight on School Garden Network soon so stay tuned.
