Safer Sonoma Action For Equine Rescue

05/29/2026

Well ... so much for retirement. We took back one of our horses - CiCi -who is in bad shape. The SAFER truck and trailer were long gone so Betsy Bueno from Lost Hearts and Souls volunteered hers. We went up to Lake County and got her. THANK YOU BETSY!!
The first thing we noticed was large crusty nodules around her eyes. We asked the person what they were. They literally said "What. I don't see anything." She returned to her trainer Michelle Hicks at Royals of All Trades - who she loves! Dr. Harlan came out from Cotati Large Animal to do her intake. Worms. She had worms in her eyes. They had been there for a while ... breeding. I swear to gawd ... In 20 years on the job I thought I had seen it all. We will be doing a lot of rehab in the next few weeks. And once again we need your help. We gave away the last of our money as was required by law when I retired. It was'nt much. We We need a couple months of rehab and training at Michelle's facilty and more vet work. Also she is soooo sore. We need some bodywork for her.
We are still a registered non-profit and have our business PayPal. Please consider all the work we have done in past decades and help us see our sweet CiCi rehabbed and rehomed. Please donate for her recovery. Thank You All!

News Flash! SAFER is still a non-profit and I continue to receive calls from horse owners with problems and issues etc. I am amazed at how many daily hits this site continues to receive!
SAFER has received a large donation for Feed emergencies! So we are open for applications for Feed Assistance; DM me at my email [email protected]. I will send you the application. Its low tech so you will have to print it out and return it to me by scan or mail. SAFER will also help rehome horses that are at risk or in difficult circumstances. Call 707-824-9543.
Since I have somewhat recovered from the physical work and strategic stress of auction work - these two items I can manage!
