The July CCC meeting also highlighted the Commission's new 50th anniversary storymap, as well as a presentation from Public Access Manager Linda Locklin on the California Coastal Trail. Locklin traced the trail's roots back to Proposition 20 and decades of walled-off beach access. The ambitious trail, slated to run California’s entire 1,238 mile coastline, is now about 70 percent complete, with a new map helping local agencies spot gaps to bridge. We've included video of this presentation below, for those interested in learning more about this monumental public access project.

Some great Pro-Coast votes by the California Coastal Commission during the July meeting held in Ventura! The Commissioners earned Pro-Coast votes ✅ for reopening federal consistency over an offshore kelp forest project that was unable to meet one of its original conditions, an enforcement agreement in Long Beach that corrects decades of denied public access benefits, and a focused LCP update in Capitola dealing with coastal hazards along Cliff Dr.

The 42nd annual California Coastal Cleanup Day (CCD) is on Saturday, September 19th from 9 AM to Noon!

Coastal Cleanup Day is California's largest annual volunteer event. Join your friends and neighbors to help remove trash from beaches and inland waterways across the entire state. Help protect wildlife and our own health by eliminating plastic pollution before it can cause any more harm.

Check back later in the summer for details on how to register as well as a map of Coastal Commission cleanup site locations and how to purchase the Coastal Commission CCD 2026 t-shirt.

Coastwalk will not be sponsoring the event for Sonoma County but please head out to your favorite beach and pick up trash then upload your findings into the Clean Swell App
