Maine has a beauty so real you can taste it.
The people of Greater Portland and their upstream neighbors in the Sebago Lake watershed savor it every day. The water they enjoy is so pure, itâs one of the few public supplies in the country that requires no filtration before treatment. This same source is the lifeblood of many Southern Maine businesses that provide statewide jobs and benefits.
The forests that serve as the wellspring for these waters are the key to keeping them clean and maintaining the productivity of the working lands that they support. But with only 10% of this region conserved, the Sebago area represents one of the Northeastâs most vulnerable watersheds. We invite you to join in the conservation of this vital natural resource for ourselves, our children, and the generations to come. For all of us willing to protect the pure waters that the home we love depends uponâthe future is clear.
Sebago Clean Watersâ mission is to protect water quality, community well-being, a vibrant economy, and the health of fish and wildlife in the Sebago watershed through voluntary forestland conservation. These forests create, filter, and sustain this areaâs exceptionally pure water supply. Our mission is supported by the businesses, watershed landowners, municipal leaders, and private citizens who share this goal. The work we do together is inspired by the countless benefits the watershed provides to this regionâs residents, visitors, and downstream water users.
Our science-based approach to protecting watershed health is complemented by our focus on local landowner needs, public recreational use, and other community values of the land and waters we share. We believe these partners bring a diversity of talents that together will safeguard this critical resource. Our collective vision is to sustain the natural treasures found at the heart of our region.
