Twenty years ago, a gunman driven by antisemitic hate shot six women at the Seattle Jewish Federation, killing Assistant Director Pamela Waechter, z”l, and wounding five others, one of whom was five months pregnant. This horrific shooting was an early harbinger of the rise of violent antisemitism targeting Jewish institutions we’ve seen over the last few years. Today, we remember Pamela, honor the survivors, and recognize the strength and resilience of Seattle’s Jewish community.
As we reflect on this tragedy, ADL remains committed to the work we do every day to fight antisemitism, strengthen Jewish security, and ensure every Jewish community can live, work, and gather without fear.
May Pamela Waechter’s memory be a blessing.
