You are invited to view King Tides in January and February 2016!
Extreme high tides, or King Tides, occur at a few specific times during the year when the moon is closest to the Earth. During these high water events, we can see what the average water levels might look like in the future, given projected sea level rise.
· People are invited to take a picture along the Duwamish River shoreline, and share the images of the King Tides, the highest high tides of the year.
January 14th 8:14am - 13-foot high tide
January 15th 8:55am - 12.9-foot high tide
January 16th 9:39am - 12.7-foot high tide
Duwamish Infrastructure Restoration Training - DIRT Corps will be at Duwamish Waterway Park on Saturday 1/16 at 9:30 if you want to join us there to take a photo and talk about potential climate impacts in the Duwamish Valley.
Other good locations to visit: 8th Avenue/Gateway Park in Georgetown, the 1st Avenue Boat Ramp in Georgetown, the shoreline street end at the end of Diagonal Way in Georgetown; in South Park: 8th Avenue/Portland McNeil's Landing, Duwamish Waterway Park, 12th and Elmgrove, and under the South Park Bridge.
