PREPARES of Western Washington PREPARES is a nurturing response of the Catholic community, to provide support to moms & families.

PREPARES is a program of Catholic Community Services of Western Washington. PREPARES will “walk the journey” with pregnant and parenting women, men, and families, who find themselves lacking a healthy support network. PREPARES will use existing services and will implement new parish based services across the state to build a network of support for parents. They will be able to access mentors and holistic wrap-around services from the time of awareness of pregnancy to the child’s fifth birthday. Once fully realized, the PREPARES network will provide meaningful, professional and sustainable support to vulnerable Washington mothers, fathers, and families as they nurture their children through pregnancy and early childhood. Some of the services include: parish-based mentors for mothers and fathers,parent support groups, rapid response and referrals for emergent needs e.g. food, formula, diapers, housing and clothing, and adoption support and referrals for those parents wanting to place their child.

At Holy Redeemer Catholic Parish, dedicated PREPARES volunteers facilitated a vital First Aid Skills Training class for local parents and grandparents. Led by one of our very own volunteers—a certified trainer—this initiative directly empowered caregivers with the hands-on skills, knowledge, and confidence needed to save a life. We are profoundly grateful to all the volunteers who poured their time and energy into empowering the families who took this class.

Thanks to the support of parishioners at St. Joseph Catholic Church - Vancouver, WA, PREPARES volunteers successfully hosted a diaper distribution on the last weekend of September that served 50 local families and 70 children.

While the wrapped packages provided immediate physical relief, the true heart of the day was found in the connections made. Dedicated volunteers spent meaningful time welcoming new neighbors and deepening relationships with returning families. Volunteers are profoundly grateful for the continued parish support that makes this life-changing outreach possible. Together, they are ensuring that every child and family in our community feels seen, supported, and cared for.

PREPARES and the Knights of Columbus from St. Hubert Catholic Church, Langley donated boxes of coats to the Farmworker Center near Mount Vernon. FWC organized a coat event where families could shop for the coats they needed for their families. What a great way to get families ready for the fall and winter months.

It is almost Play With Love season! Play With Love is PREPARES' unique play and learn group, offered by volunteers at several parishes throughout Western Washington during the school year. Last week, St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Vancouver celebrated their first Open House Play with Love Playgroup. This was an opportunity to welcome enrolled families to the group, familiarize themselves with the space and routine and kick off the start of the new year in October.
