Maritime Folknet Maritime Folknet produces live music events that connect the public with Northwest maritime culture, both past and present.

Maritime Folknet is a federal 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to preserving maritime culture and history, and encouraging people to explore and participate in that culture and history. We do this primarily through the music that highlights our boats and the people who work them, especially in the Pacific Northwest. We create programs and events that celebrate our maritime heritage, educate the public, and advocate preserving it. We collaborate with other organizations and individuals to bring these programs to the public. We are funded by memberships, public grants, and private donations.

Thanks to Maritime Washington for asking us to participate in this interesting and fun talk. "Shaped By Sea and Story: Exploring Washington's Maritime Identity" was a fascinating topic, and it gave us the chance to send Matthew Moeller and David Kessler to the Washington State History Museum in Tacoma to add their perspectives through songs and stories. It has been brought to our attention that the Couth Buzzard calendar shows tonights show from 6pm-8pm, and also starting at 7 PM.
The show will run from 7:00 to 9:00, but feel free to arrive early and buy drinks and snacks before the show begins!

Washington State's waterways are such a big part of our identity as 'Washingtonians'—shaping how we live, work, travel, create, and connect with one another. But our maritime identity isn’t one story—it’s made up of many communities, cultures, histories, and traditions.

Join us Thursday, September 17, for 'Shaped by Sea and Story: Exploring Washington’s Maritime Identity,' an evening of storytelling, performance, and conversation exploring how our connection to Washington's waterways continue to shape our sense of place today.

Moderated by Chris Moore of the Washington Trust for Historic Preservation, the program features Barbara Lawrence, Suquamish Tribal member and Education Outreach Specialist, Dr. Dorothy Laigo Cordova, author, activist, and founder/former Executive Director of the Filipino American National Historical Society (FANHS), and David Kessler, musician and board member of Maritime Folknet.

Part of the Washington State: America's 250th's 'We the People Lecture Series,' presented in partnership with the Maritime Washington National Heritage Area.
