Hutch United

Hutch United Hutch United is a grassroots organization with the mission of promoting the success of underrepresented scientists at the Fred Hutch.

We hold a variety of events throughout the year to build a supportive community and to raise awareness of the microaggressions that various groups of trainees may face. Biannual Inclusivity Workshops facilitate the discussion of diversity-related issues in a focused and solution-driven manner. Annual Scientific and Diversity Seminars allow Hutch United members to bring in external speakers who not

only serve as role models, but also help to identify problems and develop solutions for our community. Hot Topics Lunch and Beerside Chat provide an informal setting to gather with friends and colleagues to discuss current events. We also provide various resources to our members, including access to a database of mentors as well as funding opportunities. Our Hutch United Mentoring Network (HUMN) is a mentoring program featuring formal, professional one-on-one mentoring partnerships between faculty, postdocs, students and other scientists. HUMN holds various events throughout the year: Large-scale biannual Mentoring Mixer Events, Mentoring Over Coffee, and Peer Mentoring discussions. Course and Conference Scholarships allow our members to either take a course that will advance their career or attend a scientific conference (diversity-related or otherwise). This summer also marks the establishment of the Hutch United Fellowship to fully support one graduate student and one postdoc for two years.
