For those attending Bellevue’s dinner meeting at Meydenbauer Bay Yacht Club with Chef Jesus, on Wednesday, April 1, it was not an April Fools Day joke. This was the last gathering of a longtime squadron and member of District 16.
Thank you to Jan and Diane for taking charge of the dissolution — a very difficult decision. Most of the members have transferred into nearby squadrons, keeping their affiliations with ABC|USPS intact.

Tuesday, April 7 was a special time for America’s Boating Club of Snohomish County! The club celebrated and thanked Annette for her leadership, served a wonderful Hawaiian meal with delicious desserts, and then welcomed in new squadron commander, Claire!
You may recognize Claire as the octopus at Boating Safety 4 Kids events! She will do a fantastic job — she has the “multiple arms” to keep things going! Thank you Claire for taking on this leadership role!

NOTICE FROM WASHINGTON PARKS

Mooring buoy anchor replacement update: We’ve got oar-some news for you!

Our anchor replacement project in the San Juan Islands is done. This means 112 of our mooring buoys in the San Juan Islands are operational, including 70 with new anchors.

Anchors were replaced at:
• Spencer Spit
• James, Jones, Matia and Patos islands
• Prevost and Reid harbors on Stuart Island
• Fossil, Fox, Echo, Ewing, Shallow and Snoring on Sucia

Washington State Parks maintains 259 public recreational mooring buoys at 40+ parks throughout Puget Sound, Salish Sea, Hood Canal, Kitsap and Olympic Peninsula.

We anticipate replacing anchors on Blake Island and South Sound marine parks this summer.

We’ve also got tips to help you set sail for success:
• Buy your annual moorage permit.
• Save yourself a trip to shore to pay fees. Use our call-in registration system.
• Please use the brand-new anchors.
• For the protection of fragile aquatic environments, please do not anchor in eel grass.
We appreciate boaters’ patience as we replace these anchors.

Washington State Parks has put forward four proposals for the future of Blake Island Marine State Park. Boaters and other interested parties are encouraged to read the proposals and indicate their preference using an online survey.

Your vote will influence the direction taken by Washington Parks regarding access to the island and future amenities.

Alternative 1 includes removing the existing marina and breakwater, and returning the island to nature. Your action is needed to keep Blake Island a Marine Park.

Go to https://www.research.net/r/HQR3FJV?utm_content=&utm_medium=email&utm_name=&utm_source=govdelivery&utm_term= to read the proposals and submit your score for each proposal.

Help plan a state park!

Join State Parks on Feb. 25 at 5 p.m. at the Port Orchard branch of the Kitsap Regional Library (87 Sidney Ave, Port Orchard, WA 98366) for our second community meeting to discuss future recreation planning for Blake Island Marine State Park.

We will review feedback received from the first phase of public involvement, introduce several alternatives that explore different development options at the park, discuss next steps in the planning process, and gain feedback from the public about their feelings on these alternatives.

For those who are interested but unable to attend, a video recording of the presentation will be available online, along with a short survey. Find both on the project’s webpage here.

Army Corps begins dredging at Everett Harbor, Snohomish River, Nov. 4, 2025

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Seattle District officials will begin maintenance dredging of two sections of the Everett Harbor and Snohomish River federal project, Nov. 4, 2025. Operations will run 24/7 and are expected to be completed Feb. 14, 2026.

The dredging operations will involve a hydraulic pipeline dredge removing approximately 40,000 cubic yards of accumulated sediment from part of the lower channel and placing the material in the Beneficial Use Site on the west side of Jetty Island. Dredging operations will also remove approximately 150,000 cubic yards of accumulated sediment from the upper settling basin and place the material in the City of Everett’s Parcel O site in Everett, Washington.

Before dredging was approved, the Army Corps received a Suitability Determination indicating the material was suitable to be placed at both placement sites, in compliance with the Endangered Species Act.

Additionally, the Army Corps will apply timing restrictions to dredge within the designated environmental window (Nov. 4, 2025, to Feb. 14, 2026) to avoid overlap between the environmental window and salmon outmigration and mobility of U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service-designated forage fish. The restrictions are to help minimize any potential impacts dredging operations could have on out-migrating juvenile salmonids and forage-fish spawning.

Noise during dredging will be minimal but can be amplified and travel long distance over water. Boaters are encouraged to avoid the area during this period, if possible. If not, they are advised to slow down, pass on the marina side of the dredge, pay attention to rig markings and be cautious around the dredging operations.
