We remember and honor Dr. Henry A. Kuharic, MD, who died on April 16, 2026. Dr. Kuharic lived an honorable, courageous, and energetic life devoted to public service.

His compassion and devotion to his patients never failed or wavered, even when many of his young patients became ill and were dying of AIDS at the very beginning of the epidemic.

Many of us are here today because of him, and we are forever grateful.

Dr. Kuharic's kindness and care were widely recognized and honored, including by Seattle's Gen Pride, Seattle's LGBTQ+ Aging service organization.

April 18 is National Transgender HIV Testing Day. It’s a chance to spotlight the importance of routine HIV testing, status awareness, prevention, and treatment for transgender and nonbinary people.

Many people still face barriers to affirming care, and trans women of color are disproportionately impacted. The Center offers accessible, judgment-free, free, and confidential HIV/STI testing in both English and Spanish, at our space on Capitol Hill and at SeaMar in Federal Way.

Knowing your status is the first step toward treatment and prevention options. Don’t wait another day. Schedule your screening online at gaycity.org/Appointments.

National Youth HIV/AIDS Awareness Day is April 10.

Young people ages 13 to 24 continue to be impacted by HIV, and too many still face barriers to prevention, education, testing, and care. Black and Latino youth are especially affected by gaps in access and support.
The Seattle LGBTQ+ Center offers free and confidential HIV/STI testing for those ages 14 and up. If you need to get screened, make an appointment online at gaycity.org/Appointment.

Care starts with access. Knowing your status is one way to take care of yourself and the people you love.

National Native HIV/AIDS Awareness Day is observed annually on March 20, the first day of spring, a season that symbolizes rebirth, renewal, and balance.

It’s time to raise awareness in American Indian, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian communities and to honor the importance of culturally responsive care, education, and prevention. HIV stigma and barriers to care continue to disproportionately impact AI/AN communities.
Need to get tested? Schedule an HIV/STI appointment online at gaycity.org/Appointment or with an organization like the Seattle Indian Health Board at sihb.org. To learn more about how HIV affects the AI/AN communities, visit ihs.gov/hivaids.

National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day is March 10 💜

HIV can impact women and girls differently, with Black and Latina women being disproportionately affected. Barriers, including stigma, unequal access to healthcare, and gender inequities, make it harder to get the care they deserve.

The Center offers free and confidential HIV/STI testing services in a welcoming, judgment-free space. Knowing your status is one of the best ways to understand your prevention and treatment options.

February 28 is HIV Is Not a Crime Awareness Day. A call to end outdated HIV criminalization laws that punish people for their status, not science. Many of these laws ignore U=U (Undetectable = Untransmittable) and can push people away from testing and care because they fear legal consequences.

Want to know your treatment and protection options? Regular testing helps, and the Center offers free, confidential HIV/STI testing, and more at our Capitol Hill clinic and outreach sites. Learn more: gaycity.org/Wellness

Today is National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day.

For many communities of color, HIV can go undiagnosed longer, often because of inaccessible healthcare, stigma, and fewer routine testing and prevention opportunities. Testing is power, and it helps you take control early, protect yourself and partners, and get support fast.

The Center provides free and confidential HIV/STI testing, PrEP navigation, and prevention resources at our Capitol Hill location Tuesdays through Saturdays, with additional testing offered at SeaMar in Federal Way and other spaces. You can find information about all our wellness services and schedule an appointment online at gaycity.org/Wellness.

HIV has disproportionately affected gay men, especially men of color. You deserve access to care, accurate information, and choices that support your sexual health and joy. That starts with knowing your status.

Getting tested for HIV and STIs is one way to take charge of your sexual health, and at the Center, it's free and confidential. First time or part of your regular routine, testing is care that protects your health, your partners, and your peace of mind.

📍Need a test? We've got you. Schedule an appointment online at gaycity.org/Appointment.

National HIV/AIDS and Aging Awareness Day

Aging with HIV is real, and more common than many people realize. More than half of the people living with HIV in the U.S. are aged 50 and older, according to HIV.Gov. Some were recently diagnosed, while others have been living with HIV for decades.

Thanks to significant medical advances, many are living long, whole lives. But long-term survivors also face unique health needs, social stigma, and isolation, especially among q***r and trans communities.

At Seattle's LGBTQ+ Center, we recognize the need for continued testing and treatment as we age. That includes offering HIV/STI tests, PrEP Navigation, and health insurance enrollment. Take charge of your sexual health and schedule an appointment online at gaycity.org/Appointment.

We’re here to connect you with care, community, and resources that support every part of your journey.
