Indigenous Peoples Institute

Indigenous Peoples Institute context, IPI uses the term "Indigenous" to recognize the need for solidarity across Indigenous communities in the era of globalization.

Indigenous Peoples Institute (IPI) supports Native American student success at Seattle University and raises awareness about issues of critical importance to local and global Indigenous peoples. Indigenous Peoples Institute at Seattle University

IPI and its supporters affirm the sovereignty of Indigenous peoples and their communities through programming that amplifies Indigenous voices and conce

rns. We recognize the vital importance of Indigenous youth and elders in all our endeavors, the need to sustain and revitalize languages, and the significance of creating spaces to celebrate and honor the cultural practices of all Indigenous peoples. IPI supports Indigenous students and youth through:
1) community building and networking
2) specialized programming
3) consistent interactions with Seattle U faculty and staff
4) regular opportunities to interact with Indigenous artists, writers, scholars and elders. IPI offers frequent workshops and events that raise awareness about working with or on behalf of Indigenous peoples and communities.

Happy National Earth Day! Today, We recognize our responsibility to protect our planet and advance environmental justice. One way we put this commitment into action is by coming together to discuss the issues that matter most.

As part of an early Earth Day celebration, we were honored to welcome one of the most influential advocates for the environment, Amy Bowers Cordalis. She joined us to share powerful family stories, historic dam removal victories, and a call to action inspired by her Yurok tribal community.

We also enjoyed delicious Indigenous appetizers from chef Jason Vickers through his company, Natoncks Metsuโ€” Feeding My Cousins.

Today, and every day, we invite you to take a moment to reflect on your connection to the land and find a way, big or small, to give back to the place we call home.

Thank you to our co-sponsors, the Institute for Catholic Thought and Culture, and the Institute for Environmental Justice and Sustainability.
