The purpose of the Latina/o Bar Association of Washington is to represent the concerns and goals of Latino attorneys and Latino people of the State of Washington. In furtherance of our mission, we encourage and promote the active participation of all Latino attorneys and seek the involvement of Latino community, political, governmental, educational, and business leaders. LBAW encourages and assist

LBAW recognizes the importance of promoting Latino judicial appointments, encouraging respect for the integrity of the judicial system, and advocating for fairness and equality. ✨Member Spotlight ✨Ivett Martinez

A 2L at Seattle University School of Law and former immigration case manager, they are a proud first-generation law student committed to uplifting underrepresented communities. Their journey into law began after witnessing how inaccessible the legal system can be and wanting to help change it.

Now, they bring that purpose into everything they do, from leadership and moot court to legal scholarship and volunteering as a translator for community legal clinics.

LBAW is their legal home away from home. They are inspired by the tias and tios who have built remarkable careers and shown them what is possible.

In her own words: “We may not control the choices others make, but we do have the power to make our own. Each of us carries a vision for what the legal profession and legal system could look like. By showing up, contributing our voices, and embodying that vision every day, we take steps toward creating the legal spaces we want to see. Querer es poder.”

Corporate Counsel at Microsoft, Leticia Walker works at the intersection of technology, privacy, and regulatory compliance.

Inspired by her immigrant journey and upbringing in Eastern Washington, she pursued law to help create systemic change and advocate for underrepresented communities.

Today, she mentors students, serves on the Seattle Clemency Project board, and continues to give back through LBAW.

The Latina/o Bar Association of Washington is proud to honor Patricio Marquez with the LBAW Abogadas/os Excepcionales Award at our 33rd Annual LBAW Gala — Together We Rise | Juntos Ascendemos. 💙🤎

Patricio is the Division Chief of the Wing Luke Civil Rights Division at the Washington State Attorney General’s Office, where he leads efforts to enforce civil rights laws on behalf of the people of Washington. His work has included major legal challenges protecting immigrant communities, including litigation related to the rescission of the DACA program, civil immigration courthouse arrests, and challenges to policies affecting birthright citizenship.

Throughout his career, Patricio has investigated and litigated cases involving farmworker sexual harassment, H-2A program abuse, and predatory practices targeting immigrant workers and consumers. His leadership and advocacy continue to advance justice and protect vulnerable communities across Washington.

🏛️✨ Award Honoree Announcement ✨🏛️

The Latina/o Bar Association of Washington is proud to present the Justice CZ Smith Trailblazer Award to the Honorable J. Michael “Mike” Diaz at our 33rd Annual LBAW Gala — Together We Rise | Juntos Ascendemos. 💙🤎

Judge Diaz serves on Division I of the Washington Court of Appeals, after previously serving on the King County Superior Court. He is also an Adjunct Professor at Seattle University School of Law, co-chair of the Washington State Interpreter and Language Access Commission, and a member of the Washington Commission on Judicial Conduct.

Before joining the bench, Judge Diaz spent a decade as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in Seattle, where he founded the office’s Civil Rights Program, and taught trial advocacy and civil rights enforcement at the U.S. Department of Justice’s National Advocacy Training Center.

An immigrant from Peru who grew up in Seattle, Judge Diaz’s career reflects a deep commitment to justice, civil rights, and public service — embodying the legacy of Justice Charles Z. Smith.
