As we observe Memorial Day, we remember and honor the men and women of our military who gave their lives in service to our country. Their sacrifice carries a weight that cannot be overstated, and we remain grateful for the freedoms secured through their courage and devotion.

We also extend our appreciation to those who continue to serve today, including members of our own pilot group. Thank you for your service, your commitment, and the sacrifices you and your families continue to make.

To our Alaska pilots flying over the holiday weekend, thank you for your professionalism and steady commitment to operating safely. For those able to be home, we hope the day brings time to reflect, recharge, and be with family and friends.

Wishing each of you a safe and meaningful Memorial Day.

Last week, both the Alaska and Hawaiian union’s governing bodies unanimously passed resolutions urging Alaska Airlines management to give favorable hiring consideration to former Spirit Airlines pilots.

Alaska–Hawaiian pilots brought these resolutions forward to stand behind their fellow union pilots during an incredibly difficult time for approximately 2,000 aviation professionals, who were left without a job after Spirit Airlines announced it would cease operations earlier this month.

Spirit pilots have been represented by ALPA for more than 30 years, and in moments like these, solidarity across our profession matters. Hawaiian ALPA Pilots Spirit Airlines MEC

This morning the cessation of Spirit Airlines operations was announced. As a result, some Spirit pilots may have been stranded in cities away from home while performing their daily duties. Our hearts go out to more than 2,000 fellow ALPA pilots and all Spirit employees who have received the news that their airline is discontinuing operations.

An agreement is in place with Alaska management to assist impacted crews in getting home for a period of 14 days.

We are asking our Alaska pilots to make sure we keep an eye out for fellow Spirit crew members, who may need assistance getting home or other support during this time.

On April 10, newly elected Alaska MEC Chair Capt. Drew Coyle issued his first official message to the Alaska Airlines pilot group. As pilots navigate the merger, joint contract negotiations, and a new union leadership transition, he outlined a clear strategic vision for the pilot group.

As always, with these priorities, the commitment to the flying public remains unwavering. A professional, and unified pilot group dedicated to the safety and operational excellence that defines every Alaska Airlines pilot.

As joint contract negotiations continue, Alaska-Hawaiian pilots launched Afternoon Connect at SEA, expanding outreach to better engage pilots whose schedules don’t align with traditional morning Coffee Sits. Similar to those gatherings, Afternoon Connect offers an informal opportunity for Alaska and Hawaiian pilots to connect with MEC officers, elected representatives, and other committee volunteers. These events help ensure pilots’ voices are heard, creating more opportunities for open dialogue and feedback on the merger, contract negotiations and other important issues. Hawaiian ALPA Pilots
