The Seattle-based Sea Scout Ship Yankee Clipper creates opportunities for young people to learn and demonstrate leadership, teamwork, self-reliance, self-confidence and a strong work ethic in an environment based on ancient tradition and 21st-century innovation. Join our group of active young people as we sail from Olympia in southern Puget Sound to the San Juan Islands into the waters of British Columbia. We participate in national and international tall ship events, sail on week-long summer and winter voyages, make public appearances at water festivals, and have lots of fun along the way. In 2022, we purchased a new boat to serve as a worthy replacement for the venerable old Yankee Clipper. Our new boat is a Navy 44 Mk1 Sail Training Craft (formerly named “Swift”) that was used at the Naval Academy to train midshipmen how to sail. The new Yankee Clipper is a Coast Guard inspected small passenger vessel, certified for 12 passengers. We are grateful for the long standing sponsorship of Lions Club of West Seattle! The Yankee Clipper, along with Sea Scout units from Seattle and Portland Councils, attended a Safety at Sea event on November 8, 2025 at South Lake Union.

Scouts learned about fire fighting, towing, engine troubleshooting, safety flares, navigation, radio procedures, and ring buoys rescues.
We also toured historic vessels: the steamboat Virginia V, the tugboat Arthur Foss, the lightship Swiftsure, and the fireboat Duwamish.
