We are backyard growers and urban farmers - beginners to experts - from the Greater Seattle area who share an interest in growing fruit and nut trees, berries, kiwis, grapes, and other fruit. We offer information on adapted varieties, up-to-the-minute growing techniques, and share our own experiences growing fruit. We are a chapter of the Western Cascade Fruit Society. Meetings
We meet almost mont

Programs explore topics tailored to Western Washington growers, such as grafting, pruning, pest control, recommended varieties, nurseries, suppliers, home wine and cider making, and more. Newsletters
STFS members receive both The Urban Scion Post, our monthly newsletter, and The BeeLine, an on-line quarterly from Western Cascade Fruit Society. Both feature a wide variety of useful articles about fruit, and announce upcoming events. Maggot Barriers
Maggot Barriers, the nylon sleeves that protect apples and Asian pears from apple maggot damage, are available through the STFS. The STFS uses the proceeds from sales to support home grown fruit education. They are also made in the USA. To order Maggot Barriers, click on the Maggot Barriers tab. Thanks for your support. Field Trips and Guided Tours
In summer (and sometimes winter, too), the Society organizes field trips to local and regional growers to see first-hand how to grow fruit. Past field trips visited commercial fruit and nut orchards, wholesale and specialty nurseries, private growers, research orchards, and some members’ own yards. Fruit Shows
Spring Fruit & Grafting Show offers custom grafting, seminars, scion wood, root stocks, educational booths, supplies, and more. Fall Show features dozens of apples and pears to see and sample, plus information on growing backyard fruit. Non-Profit
Western Cascade Fruit Society is run completely by volunteers, and has chapters in Clallam, Jefferson, and Kitsap counties as well as Vashon Island, Tacoma, and Olympia. See www.wcfs.org for additional information. Seattle Tree Fruit Society is an IRS 501(c)(3) educational, nonprofit organization.
