We are grieving with Shreveport today.

At least eight children were killed in a mass shooting that police say was domestic-related. This is a horrific reminder that domestic violence and gun violence are deeply connected.

The question is whether leaders will act.

The alleged gunman, who is related to some of the children, was killed after a vehicle chase, according to police.

Victory! House Bill 2320 passes in the Washington State Senate.

This bill prohibits the manufacturing of certain fi****ms and components of fi****ms on 3D printers.

The bill will also prohibit the illegal sale and possession of code for manufacturing fi****ms, and place regulations on 3D printers that produce these fi****ms.

The enactment of HB 2320 is an essential step to saving lives.

Cheryl was a fierce champion for gun violence prevention. After surviving the horrendous Jewish Federation shooting in Seattle in 2006, Cheryl committed her life to helping ensure others would not have to endure what she did.

As the Citizen sponsor of I-594 Cheryl helped chart a new reality for GVP in Washington State.

“Cheryl will be forever remembered as a servant leader whose actions helped save countless lives in Washington and around the country. I feel honored to have known her, learned from her, and fought together to save lives” -Renée Hopkins, CEO at the Alliance for Gun Responsibility

It has been 30 years since the shooting at Frontier Junior High in Moses Lake that took the lives of two students and a teacher, leaving others injured.

This was a situation where the shooter should not have had access to a firearm. We will continue to fight for safe storage across communities so preventable tragedies like Moses Lake don't continue to happen.

Our hearts are heavy today as we mourn the loss of two young lives taken far too soon.

We are thinking of the families, the students, and every neighbor who witnessed this horrific event. This is not just a "news story"; this is a profound tear in the fabric of our community.

We refuse to accept this as an unchangeable reality of life in Seattle. Our children deserve to wait for the bus, walk home from school, and grow up in neighborhoods free from the threat of gun violence.

A jury recently found the city of Seattle negligent in its emergency response after a 16-year-old was shot and killed during the "CHOP" period back in 2020. This tragedy must never be forgotten, and neither should the failure of the systems responsible for keeping people alive in a crisis. If we’re serious about safety, we have to prioritize prevention and build public safety protocols that function under pressure, not just on paper.

A King County jury found Seattle was negligent in its response to the fatal shooting of a teenager in the Capitol Hill Organized Protest zone in 2020.

This is not an abstract debate about “safety.” This is what state-sanctioned violence looks like in real life: an armed encounter, a life ended in seconds, and a community left to grieve and demand the truth. It is also the second killing of a Minneapolis resident by federal immigration agents this month, following the shooting death of Renee Good on January 7th.

We are demanding full transparency and an independent investigation with full preservation of evidence. We are also asking for a national commitment to violence prevention including policies and practices that reduce the presence and the use of fi****ms in volatile situations, that prioritize de-escalation, accountability, and the sanctity of human life.

Alex Pretti should be alive.

The President's immigration enforcement policy has been nothing more than thinly veiled excuse for sanctioned state violence against innocent Americans. The tragedy in Minnesota made abundantly clear that when the government deploys armed, unidentified agents into neighborhoods and treats communities like threat zones, violence is not an accident, it's the design.

State sanctioned violence is gun violence, made deadlier by institutional power, secrecy, and impunity. Americans from every walk of life must take a stance and say enough is enough. We must demand full accountability, an independent investigation, and an end to militarized operations in our neighborhoods that are only exasperating preventable violence. We urge an end to the lawlessness, for renewed law enforcement accountability, and to reimagine our nation's immigration policy in a way that respects life, liberty, and the rule of law.

Lastly, we must not forget the murder of Renee Good, a 37-year-old mother, who was shot and killed in her vehicle by an ICE officer in Minneapolis. Our hearts are with her family and the Minneapolis community. We call on leaders at every level to reject this brutality, speak out, and act to stop armed state violence before more families are shattered.

We are heartbroken by today’s shooting at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. Our thoughts are with the community and all those impacted. We will continue working for policies and practices proven to end preventable gun violence.

Please start calling it what it is - a public health epidemic.
