Nickelsville appealed to Seattle Public Utilities late last week because they wanted us to pay not only for new water valves in front of Nickelsville Central District, but also water valves a block away on Cherry Street. The village has been working with Architects Without Borders to plan a new kitchen area. Nickelsville was awarded $114,000 courtesy of the 37th District State Senator Saldana and Representatives Street andTomiko-Santos, but the water valves on Cherry Street could potentially have used most of that money. A Central District participant testified about the positive impact an improved kitchen would have on the villagers. A decision will be coming from SPU within two weeks. 🤞

We are getting closer to opening Brighton Village. The kitchen wall has been framed and the cover attached the day before a rainstorm. Last Saturday a volunteer brought Ezell’s Friend Chicken and peach cobbler for lunch. Saturday work parties are at 10 AM. All are welcome to join us. Brighton Village is at 7112 Rainier Avenue South.

A light pole was moved and Brighton Village now has electricity. We ‘re excited that the framing for the laundry and three bathrooms has been accomplished. Last Saturday a donor brought the work crew a delicious taco salad. We can always use extra hands to get the village ready to open. Saturdays at 10 AM is a standing work party. The villages’ Garden Masters have been shopping for plants this week. Central District picked up some veggies and berry bushes at today’s Tilth Plant Sale and made connections with knowledgeable folks who can give gardening advice.
