High school drama and cinephile dreams are apparently universal, as two student films recently brought the chaos of Pinoy campus life to the Pacific Northwest. The capstone projects from De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde were featured in the “Sometimes You Just Gotta Laugh” block of the Diwa at Pagdiriwang Festival on June 7.

Held at the Seattle Center Armory Loft 2, the screenings offered a humorous yet meaningful look at the high-stakes world of teenage ambition and filmmaking.

During Diwa at Pagdiriwang, we unveiled the design for the 2026 edition of Diwa Filipino Film Festival of Seattle happening this October 3 & 4! The poster was created by local artist . Merikano Manunggul is based on a neolithic hematite burial jar (c. 890-710 BCE), unearthed in Quezon, Palawan in 1964, now designated a national treasure of the Philippines. This contemporary PNW version preserves the central image of a boatman guiding a soul to the afterlife, while reimagining the vessel as a Washington State Ferry and its passengers as timeless ancestors and descendants of a transpacific diaspora.
Eric Chan / 陳志宇 / 진지유 (b. 1988) is a visual artist based in Seattle. His artwork features folk art and narrative portraiture with ink line drawing and oil painting on reclaimed wood. A grandson of Cantonese immigrants to Seattle’s Chinatown - International District, Chan’s artistic subjects are often rooted in a personal exploration of intergenerational and multicultural themes of diaspora, dissidence, pilgrimage, and pioneers.

We would like to acknowledge Dahlay, a local artist and musician who provided the music for the trailer for Diwa at Pagdiriwang. Dahlay, a local artist and musician who provided the music for our trailer. Dahlay is a Filipino-American rapper, poet, & singer-songwriter based in Seattle.
Born & raised in the Bronx, NY, Dahlay's art centers on his experiences as a second-generation Filipino-American navigating connection to self and to community. He has released several hip-hop projects that highlight themes of introspection, interpersonal conflict, and intersectional identity and responsibility. Dahlay's hope is to amplify AANHPI stories, voices, and perspectives through art, creativity, and community building.
