According to the World Health Organization, about 50% of the globe lacks access to essential primary healthcare services. Because of this, individuals are dying of treatable and preventable illnesses everyday. FFGH supports the work of Last Mile Health and the campaign.

Quality primary healthcare is the backbone of universal health coverage. We must continue to invest in community and frontline health workers who connect rural and remote communities to the health system.

We are looking for dedicated and passionate individuals to join our team of volunteers and interns! This is an opportunity to address major global health challenges and learn effective advocacy skills.

Caroline, a former intern for FFGH studied community health and political science at University of Illinois. “I've been with the Fund for Global Health for about six months and have really enjoyed working with the entire team. In my first few months as an intern, I worked closely with Operation ASHA, an incredibly inspiring organization that delivers tuberculosis treatment to people in the most remote parts of India and Cambodia. Working with FFGH has been very rewarding, and I encourage everyone to take part in their work in any capacity.”

Ann, a recent volunteer from Kentucky. Ann is a physician. “I started as a volunteer with FFGH last spring when I returned from working in a foreign country and wanted to keep working globally without leaving home. I liked that FFGH wasn’t asking people to donate money. Instead, we work to convi...

Tuberculosis (TB) is a disease without borders. It affects individuals in every part of the globe, and is currently the top infectious killer in the world. The great majority of TB cases can be cured with inexpensive and easily available drugs, but it currently is the most underfunded U.S. global disease program relative to its burden. We do have the tools and technology to defeat TB, but without the proper support and funding, treatment adherence can be difficult and the disease can spread. FHI 360 highlights the ways TB treatment services can be improved to reach individuals who are often missed and go untreated, as well as discussing ways we can help end the stigma and fear associated with TB.

Tuberculosis (TB) has now overtaken HIV as the world’s leading cause of mortality. There were about 10.4 million TB cases in 2016, despite the fact that TB is an old and often curable disease whose incidence declined in industrialized countries long before the introduction of the TB vaccine and an...

In Africa there are millions of people who live out of the reach of healthcare, and are currently dying from treatable illnesses and diseases. Through the work of Community Health Workers, primary health services are being brought to individuals most in need. The Fund for Global Health supports these efforts and advocates for increased emphasis on comprehensive primary care within US global health assistance. The work portrayed in this video is a great example of what can be done to help those most in need.

There is an urgent challenge in Sub-Saharan Africa: people are dying from treatable illnesses like malaria, pneumonia, and diarrhea. The traditional model is...

“I feel a sense of urgency to write this final Tijuana blog. Before words and images evaporate. Turning into the hot air of another intellectual. It is indeed a struggle to remain focused away from the action. As Audre Lorde rather starkly commented, “it is hard to feel anger and fury and prostration and grief. It is so much easier to remain emotionally aloof or to indulge in the quick emotional jerk off that passes as sentiment”. So, I write of these last few insights and unexpected lessons.”

Dr. Ann Colbert’s final blog post about her mission work in Tijuana. Thanks to all who have been following her unique and compelling stories.

“Yesterday held another unprecedented moment. On a road parallel to the border. In an Uber driven by Jorge. Seated to my right in the cramped back seat - a scared mother from Venezuela cradling her desperately ill two year old. To my left - the ugly steel slatted wall. The slogans, the op-eds, the tweets coming to life before my eyes. Life imitating art. Taking the half hour journey (short only for me) from the little boy's folded blanket to Tijuana General Hospital, I recalled my distress when I once rushed my own daughter to the ER. Fear, confusion, sickness filled the air while I struggled not to further smother it with tears.”

These images are from Dr. Ann Colbert’s recent mission trip to work at a refugee clinic at the border in Tijuana.
She reflects, “While in Tijuana, the work was relatively easy – see one patient, see the next. It felt like I was doing something. Back in the states with a slew of concerned citizens, I hope to continue an effort to change immigration policies and refugee health. It is not impossible.” @ Tijuana, Baja California
