Prospecting, a tale of two journeys.
Taking on the task of prospecting for a club is a two phase journey. Prospecting in and of itself is not the begin all/end all. This first stage is only a determination as to your likelihood to be a good fit for the club and for you to determine if this is really what you are willing to be a part of. Which by mere definition means that if you successfully complete the prospect stage you then transition to learning how to be a full member.
Mistakenly, most prospects think that after they receive that coveted center patch that the journey is over. DEAD WRONG. The real journey has just begun. Part 2 is about to kick in. Now is the time for the club to really see what you're made of. You see, during the prospect period you were exposed to the bare minimum of club business. Remember, you were NOT a full member. Although some clubs do let prospects sit in on meetings traditionally this is not permitted.
So now that you are a full member you are actually being introduced to the complete inner workings of your chosen club. Yeah, now the mission is clearer. Your true journey with the club is just beginning. And now being a full member you need to humbly accept that you don't know s**t about the full mission of your club. How could you? You just received the keys to the front door when you accepted the center patch. Don't be a cocky new member. You see it all the time, new members that try to live off the reputation of their club. NO....get out there and earn your own reputation. Learn your members. Especially learn your senior members. If you want to know why the club has been successful then be quiet and listen to the club elders. They will put you on the right track to be a distinguished member.
When you received your center patch you received the honor and reputation of your clubs legacy. Nobody knows you yet. Only time will reveal if your fit is good or not. A lot of prospects put on their full set and it overwhelms them. They change. They morph into a entirely different individual that is unrecognizable from their prospect stage. Remain YOU. Enjoy the new journey as a new member. You will not learn how to be a brother overnight. Earn your respect. Don't be that fool trying to live off the glory your club has garnered. Enjoy the journey..........
