An Urgent Letter to the International Community about the Plight of the Amhara People Of Ethiopia
Warning to all people who care about humanity and human dignity across the international community: A major ethnic cleansing is taking place against the Amhara people of Ethiopia. The Amharas are being targeted by the government controlled by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s Prosperity Party (PP), and by n
on-governmental actors in the TPLF (Tigray People’s Liberation Front) and OLF (Oromo Liberation Front). Amhara are being slaughtered and displaced because of their Amhara identity and Semetic roots. The last 30 years both groups have disarmed, killed, displaced and oppressed Amharas and they are preparing to engage on major scale genocide worst than Rwanda. What we ask from international humanitarian allies
Our ask is simple and strictly humanitarian:
The perpetrators of this ethnic cleansing are those in power, they have resources and are well connected. They are a phone call away from United Nations officials, Universities, Journalists, and Elected Officials. Who has acknowledged his bias for his home region and used his platform to advocate for relief in Tigray but not in Afar or Amhara which were equally impacted by the war chosen by TPLF and the Abiy Administration. Please give your voice to the suffering and death of civilians, women, and children, who are being exterminated because of their ethnic identity at the hands of an ethno nationalist regime and ethnocentric terrorists. We know you have your life and your struggles. But for the sake of humanity, learn about the truth about Amhara Genocide. Help us to stop it:
1. Help us share accounts of the crimes to the media, human rights organizations and world leaders. There has been a concerted attempt to minimize the impact of the war on the Amhara region and to portray Amharas as aggressors, despite having had no meaningful representation in government since 1991.
2. Help us petition for proportionate aid and protection for the disproportionate number of Amharas that make up Ethiopia’s epidemic of internally displaced persons (IDPs). Ethiopia has the world’s 3rd largest IDP population after Ukraine and Syria. The vast majority of whom are Amharas displaced by ethnic massacres and targeted government demolitions of Amhara homes.
3. Help us petition for Fair Adjudication of the Wolkait/Western Tigray Land Dispute. Ask the United Nations, US State Department and the EU to stop endorsing TPLF, PP & OLF narratives placing disproportionate blame for the war on Amhara Special Forces and citizen defenders (Fano) who fought in self-defense in a war they had no political representation in. Western outlets have uncritically repeated TPLF talking points about the contested Welkait-Tegede region. Frequently referred to as ‘Western Tigray’ the region was forcibly annexed to Tigray before the TPLF took power in 1991 and reclaimed by Amharas in 2020 at the start of the war.
4. We are about to witness a genocide the likes of which hasn't been seen since Rwanda. Please sign this petition to help us campaign to demand PM Abiy stop the war he declared on Amharas and come to the negotiating table like he did with the TPLF (Tigray People’s Liberation Front) and OLF (Oromo Liberation Front). TPLF and OLF have committed ethnic cleansing on Amharas for the last 30 years. In the last four years Oromia Regional authorities allied with Prime Minister
Abiy Ahmed and OLF have been cleansing Amharas from Oromia at a heartbreaking pace. There were over 85 ethnic massacres of Amharas from 2021-2022 alone. The international community particularly State Department officials are putting the genocide crime squarely on Amharas. These powerful voices are emboldening TPLF, OLF and PM Abiy to carry out their genocide confident they can kill in silence. If allowed to continue without intervention or even international attention, there is nothing to stop the wholesale destruction of 30 million disarmed Amharas.
