We act as a forum to: Understand and address the intersection of race, racism and other forms of oppression; Share information, resources and best practices; and Provide training for members. The operation and collaboration of the NPARC Leadership Team with other organizations is premised on a belief that institutional racism and structural oppression exists not as personal opinion but as a histor

ical-political fact. Hand in hand with the existence of institutional racism and structural oppression is the understanding that we must then acknowledge that the replicated discrimination and mistreatment of marginalized peoples, including social misinformation to justify the marginalization of certain groups, is itself an organizationally damaging effect. A person’s race consciousness is very personal and develops along many avenues. For instance, a person’s orientation to different peoples and ways of being is greatly influenced by ones socialization and upbringing, both in the family or guardian home as well as in school, work, and through other peer associations. Since NPARC exists to support our member organizations who are working to counter the effects of institutional racism and structural oppression within their own operations, as members of the leadership team we work with those who also acknowledge these effects and are actively holding themselves accountable to continue learning about their own impacts and growing to be more willing to address them.
