Today’s tea ceremony at Seattle Japanese Garden is done! Cool sunny day and all sessions were sold out! Thank you for coming out to the tea house today. The scroll for the day read 「黒如淡」 (Kuroki koto, awaki ga gotoshi) The deepest black carries the lightness of simplicity; the truly mature have no need to proclaim their depth. Our flower arrangement featured a lily with some leaves in a hagi-ware vase, and the sweet of the day was honey cake.

The garden will be closed from June 22 through July 27 for some construction projects, so our next presentation will be on August 15, with sessions at 1:00, 2:00, and 3:00 pm. Tickets should be available early July so please check the garden’s website!!

Today’s private tea ceremony at is done! Super sunny early summer day with a wonderful haiku group! This time, we did the koicha temae which is not a usual procedure to perform in a public setting like this but hey, it was the haiku group and they enjoyed it tremendously. Some never had koicha before! The scroll for the day read 「喫茶呪文」 (Kissa Jumon is a short Buddhist verse or chant recited before drinking tea.) It is not merely a formula for drinking tea. Rather, it expresses the intention to transform the act of receiving tea from simple consumption into a quiet, dignified moment of spiritual composure, mindfulness, and gratitude. Our flower arrangement featured a tiny flower with some leaves in roof tile like vase, and the sweet of the day was ohagi which we prepared yesterday. While they were doing haiku meeting, we also served home made castilla.

Today’s presentation at is done! Sunny and cool day with 4 sessions - a busy day! Thank you so much to everyone who joined us.
The scroll for the day read 「山花開錦如」 (sanka hiraite nishiki no gotoshi), meaning “Mountain flowers bloom like brocade.” This Zen phrase does not merely describe a beautiful spring landscape. It points to the truth that nothing is permanent, yet each thing fully reveals itself in the present moment. The flowers will fall, and the water will keep flowing, but in this very impermanence, reality is complete. Our flower arrangement featured a camellia bud in a blackened bamboo vase, and the sweet of the day was a delicious fruit jelly, rice crispy and ginger cookies.

Our next presentation will be on June 20, with sessions at 1:00, 2:00, and 3:00 pm. Again, the tickets are almost sold out already so hurry and get yours!!

Today’s presentation at is complete! It was our first one for the year — and completely sold out! 🌸 Thank you so much to everyone who joined us on such a nice spring day.

The scroll for the day reads 「不二」 (Funi), meaning “Nonduality. That which appears as two is, in truth, not separate.“Fu-ni” invites us to see beyond the habit of dividing the world into “this” and “that,” and to encounter life as profoundly interconnected.” Our flower arrangement featured nandina berries in a modern tin-tsugi (instead of gold, it's been fixed with tin using kintsugi techniques) vase, and the sweet of the day was a delicious Sakura mochi, mini manju and ginger cookies.

Our next presentation will be on May 16, with sessions at 1:00, 2:00, and 3:00 pm. The tickets are almost sold out already!!
