Marites, what's your why to certify?

I earned my CCRN in 2017 to validate and solidify my knowledge in critical care, boost my confidence when caring for complex ICU patients, and demonstrate to my patients and colleagues that I am dedicated to continuing nursing education and evidence-based practice. Other perks include some hospitals paying more if you have your CCRN and being more competitive when applying for critical care jobs.

Joel, what's your why to certify ?

I got certified about a 1.5 years after I transitioned from Acute care to ICU. I took the review courses with Laura Gesparis at the time (Nicole wasn’t on the scene yet.. .;-) ). I did it for 2 reasons, 1 – I wanted a little extra pay ($1/hr) to help cover my coffee addiction and 2- I worked in a specialized Cardiac ICU. In studying for the CCRN, I got to spend more time learning about other patient populations. Later as my Cardiac career grew, I looked as subspecialties. I will say CMC was definitely a lot more complex and harder than I thought. The CSC was great because it really firmed up my cardiac surgery knowledge.

What's you why to become a certified RN?

My CCRN certification helped me to feel validated in my knowledge as a critical care nurse. I learned so much during the process of certification. Maintaining my certification helps me to keep my knowledge current to the latest evidence. My CCRN certification keeps me invested in the nursing profession. 15 years of certification and counting!
