Women United was founded based on my real life experience of what it means to sacrifice. Removing oneself from your dreams and aspiration for the betterment someone else. Seven of which struggled with substance abuse and addiction. I witnessed the struggles of each of them and the effects it had on our family mainly my mother. Because of this issue my mother became the ultimate caregiver and raise

d many of her grandchildren with no assistance or additional funds to support the need. I gained a huge amount of appreciation and admiration for my mother and began to see her as a hero when I look back at the task she had undertaken due to the love she had for family. In my case it was my two beautiful nieces. These two Small Wonders were accepted into my heart and home without a second thought in 1994. My younger sister who I loved dearly was faced with insurmountable challenges in her life due to substance abuse in which she was unable to overcome. Women United upholds Mark 12:31 The second is this: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no commandment greater than these.". No women should stand alone in crisis no matter if she's your sister, neighbor or friend. We strive to provide assistance to our women, our Kinship Caregivers, our sister's who are caring for elderly parents and young adults just beginning the journey of motherhood. Women United individually and collectively have a place to come from beneath the cover and into the light with the struggles we face daily in the life of caregivers. We're able to share the challenges and support one another in our journey. Together we reduce stress in transition, loneliness, unity-family reunification, and personal balance. Women United addresses the need for children to learn play and grow together in a safe secure environment under The Angel of hope play place & Engagement Center. We focus on socials and team building skills, allowing the children and parents alike to distress through play, or simply sit back and experience self-care. Our purpose is to bridge the gap between the parents, caregivers and the children we love. Our goal is to bring back family unity, values, and structure as well as accountability and involvement. We hope to enhance the trust and support between Kinship caregivers and the children of our future. To strengthen the woman that feels like she can't make it another day. Also to stand united with and for one another in times of crisis with respect of our cultural differences. kinship mentoring is provided through the following programs:

a. Angel of Hope Play Place and Engagement Center
b. Threads of Change
c. Love Train Play Street Community Block Party
d. Grandma’s Hands
e. Pepper Pot Kinship Support Group
f. Kinship Carnival

This program receives funding from the King County Veterans, Seniors and Human Services Levy

Our kinship and community families came together for something truly special on April 4th at the Rainier Beach Community Center! 🌸 We had such a joyful time at our Easter Egg Hunt in partnership with the incredible Buffalo Soldiers.

The kids were so excited to find their Easter bags filled with candy and prizes, but the fun didn't stop at the hunt! Mr. Newbill was busy at the grill serving up delicious hot dogs for everyone to enjoy. 🌭

One of the highlights was seeing the children learn about horse grooming and hear the powerful history of the Buffalo Soldiers. To top it all off, we captured so many smiles with photos alongside the Easter Bunny! 🐰✨ It was a day filled with laughter, learning, and the kind of connection that makes our kinship and community families so strong.

We’re all about building these lasting memories together. If you want to learn more about our upcoming programs or get involved, give us a call at +12065804191.

✨ Community in Action: Supporting Hope’s Community Closet ✨

Today we had the privilege of supporting Women United’s Hope’s Community Closet, a beautiful program that provides FREE clothing and essential items to individuals and families in our community.

Hope’s Community Closet is more than just a place to pick up clothes — it’s a place where people can feel seen, valued, and supported. The program offers new and gently used clothing for children, teens, and adults, along with seasonal items like coats, shoes, and other essentials. 💛

This monthly community effort takes place every 4th Saturday and helps ensure that no one in our neighborhood goes without the basic necessities they need.

We were honored to contribute and be part of the mission to uplift families across Skyway, Renton, and South Seattle. Programs like this remind us that when communities come together, hope becomes something we can share.

Thank you to Women United and all the volunteers who continue to make a difference every month.

We’re thrilled to feature Women United — a grassroots organization empowering kinship families in Skyway and West Hill. 💛

Their programs — from art therapy and kinship support circles to the Love Train Block Party and Hope’s Community Closet — are about strength, healing, and community joy. ✨

Founder Alesia Cannady, a kinship caregiver herself, brings lived experience and leadership to every initiative and serves on the Skyway Community Advisory Committee for the new Skyway Community Center.

🗓️ Don’t miss Hope’s Community Closet on Feb 28, 12:30–5 p.m. at King County Fire District 20 — FREE clothing and essentials for all.
