On the 16th anniversary of my sister Kim’s “moving day” (as I like to call it) and the true beginning of the Consider Project a talk from now Oscar winning illustrator/author of a kids book (that’s really for adults 😁) … Charlie Mackesy.
His book now turned animated short film “The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse” toucjes the soul in so many ways just like my sister Kim did. This book spews much proverbial wisdom, including the hope of life lived less afraid.
One line reads:
“Imagine how we would be if we were less afraid”
Now don’t get me wrong… Kim had real deep fears, (fear of failure probably being the biggest) but she was not afraid.
**** There is a difference between having fears and “being afraid.”
Kim never let her fears define her. She never identified as them. Her being was not transformed by fear but her fears where transformed by her being. She was Brave (that’s who she was) because she had real fears and yet moved forward anyway.
**** Because I knew Kim I can imagine what a human would be like “if they were less afraid”… they would be like Kim and that would be a good thing.
**** I miss you sis and I will keep trying to live less afraid… just like you taught me.
**** So, if you are unfamiliar with Charlie Mackesy’s book, art, or his message to the world I suggest you snoop around a bit. Like me his life was also profoundly changed by the loss of a dear friend. You can listen to him tell that story himself, just Google “Come as you are - Charlie Mackesy” **** or copy and paste this link https://youtu.be/IgsrzOrE6W8
Sincerely,
Dave
