On Wednesday, Jan. 28, Washington Wild partnered with Stewards of Washington State Lands to lead a powerful day of advocacy in Olympia, bringing together a broad coalition to advance the Trust Land Transfer (TLT) program.

Our team worked alongside 30 advocates from organizations including the Sierra Club, Quileute Tribe, Port Gamble S'Klallam Tribe, Center for Responsible Forestry, PNW Forest Climate Alliance, Northwest Watershed Institute, Issaquah Alps Trails Club, Friends of Heybrook Ridge, Tahoma Bird Alliance, Environmental Coalition of Pierce County, Mountains to Sound Greenway, Olympic Park Advocates, and Friends of Miller Bay to hold 40 legislative meetings in a single day. Together, we reached one-third of the Washington State Legislature, ensuring that "win-win-win" conservation solutions stay at the forefront of this session.

Our legislative goal was to generate support for $29 million of funding in the supplemental capital budget supporting 7 Trust Land Transfer projects that would provide long term conservation management for more than 12,000 acres of state forest a.

By coordinating these targeted discussions, we’re making the case for TLT as a cornerstone of state land management, allowing Washington to:

🌲Conserve high-value forests and recreation lands.

🌲Reinvest in trust lands that provide critical funding for schools and counties.

🌲Modernize how we protect our natural legacy for future generations.

A big thank you to the many partners and volunteers who joined us on the ground and to the legislative staff who took the time to hear this shared vision for a wilder Washington.

Join our team! Washington Wild is hiring two positions: Communications Manager & Olympic Forest Collaborative Coordinator

The Communications Manager (full time, hybrid) brings strategic thinking, creativity, and strong storytelling to a small, nimble organization where ideas move quickly and experimentation is encouraged. This role offers meaningful creative freedom and the opportunity to elevate our communications for both longtime and new supporters. With a vast and diverse network across Washington State, you’ll have countless opportunities to connect, build relationships, and amplify impact. At a pivotal moment for conservation, engaging our supporters effectively and efficiently has never been more important and your voice will help shape how our movement shows up in the world.

The Olympic Forest Collaborative Coordinator (part time, remote) provides coordination and facilitation support for members of the Olympic Forest Collaborative. The coordinator will provide scheduling, agendas, and notes for weekly Collaborative and other stakeholder meetings, draft and post monthly updates to the Collaborative website, research information relative to the Collaborative’s work, and work with both members of the conservation community and local timber industry to find common ground around forest health and management in the Olympic National Forest.

Progress for ! 🌊🌲

Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) advanced her Wild Olympics Wilderness & Wild and Scenic Rivers Act through a hearing before the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Public Lands Subcommittee, a key milestone in the legislative process toward becoming law. The hearing came after a wave of new endorsements from sportsmen organizations who sent a letter urging the Committee to pass Wild Olympics to protect hunting, fishing and salmon streams for the future against the increasing threats to public land.

The Wild Olympics Wilderness & Wild and Scenic Rivers Act, which Senator Murray reintroduced in May with U.S. Representative Emily Randall (D, WA-06) would permanently protect approximately 125,000 acres of Olympic National Forest as Wilderness and 19 rivers and their major tributaries—a total of 464 river miles—as Wild & Scenic.

Thank you, U.S. Senator Patty Murray and Rep. Emily Randall for continuing to fight for our wild places!

This one of our Board Members, Dan, has a special message for all of you incredible WA Wild supporters:

"I joined the board of Washington Wild about a year ago, and that work has reminded me how local conservation really is. The rivers we fish, the trails we walk with our kids, the forests that keep us grounded all depend on steady work from people who care. I ask you to consider a donation to Washington Wild on Giving Tuesday. Any amount helps us protect the wild places that make this state what it is."

When you donate to WA Wild, you directly support the work that protects the places you know and love. This Black Friday, please consider giving back to the lands and waters that mean so much to you. Every dollar makes a difference! đź’š https://web.charityengine.net/Default.aspx?tsid=34439

This week we are feeling especially thankful for our community after the success of our 4th Annual Battle of the Soups.

Thanks to your enthusiasm (and appetites), we were able to raise $3,200 for the WA Brewshed® Alliance in support of our work alongside our local craft brewing industry to protect the healthy forests and clean waters that make great beer possible.

And of course, we awarded a new brewpub with the coveted Golden Ladle...

🥇 Congratulations to Halcyon reigned supreme with their (vegan!) Roasted Kabocha Coconut Soup—a warm, autumnal bowl layered with cozy seasonal flavors that became next-level topped with house-made chili crisp, a coconut-milk drizzle, and fresh green onion. It was as gorgeous as it was comforting.

The talent this year was unreal. Each brewery brought something unique, generous, and delicious to the table.

Thank you again to for their fun and tasty Pizza Soup, for their rich and warming Pozole Rojo, and for their cozy Babaw, a Cambodian-style chicken rice porridge.

A huge shout-out to for flawlessly hosting yet another packed and joyous Battle of the Soups and their generous $1 per pint donations. Thank you as well to for generously donating supplies, time, and energy, and to for providing the delicious pretzel knots that perfectly paired with every soup.

The competition was hot, bellies were full, and our community showed up in a big way. Thank you to everyone who came out, voted, slurped, supported, and helped protect Washington’s wild places with us.

We’ll see you next year—same energy, same cause, new soups, and another chance at the Golden Ladle. Cheers to clean water and great beer!
