On Wednesday, Jan. 28, Washington Wild partnered with Stewards of Washington State Lands to lead a powerful day of advocacy in Olympia, bringing together a broad coalition to advance the Trust Land Transfer (TLT) program.
Our team worked alongside 30 advocates from organizations including the Sierra Club, Quileute Tribe, Port Gamble S'Klallam Tribe, Center for Responsible Forestry, PNW Forest Climate Alliance, Northwest Watershed Institute, Issaquah Alps Trails Club, Friends of Heybrook Ridge, Tahoma Bird Alliance, Environmental Coalition of Pierce County, Mountains to Sound Greenway, Olympic Park Advocates, and Friends of Miller Bay to hold 40 legislative meetings in a single day. Together, we reached one-third of the Washington State Legislature, ensuring that "win-win-win" conservation solutions stay at the forefront of this session.
Our legislative goal was to generate support for $29 million of funding in the supplemental capital budget supporting 7 Trust Land Transfer projects that would provide long term conservation management for more than 12,000 acres of state forest a.
By coordinating these targeted discussions, we’re making the case for TLT as a cornerstone of state land management, allowing Washington to:
🌲Conserve high-value forests and recreation lands.
🌲Reinvest in trust lands that provide critical funding for schools and counties.
🌲Modernize how we protect our natural legacy for future generations.
A big thank you to the many partners and volunteers who joined us on the ground and to the legislative staff who took the time to hear this shared vision for a wilder Washington.
