NCJW CNS Spotlight:
The Cost of Segregation
July 26, 2021 -- 7:00 pm via Zoom

fr Commonwealth Fund

The Cost of Segregation:
How Racialized Health Policy Decisions Affect Everyone

Segregation’s cost to all of society is dramatic, especially to black women, as we heard at the May Spotlight about the Momnibus Act. Health policy, especially the expansion – or not – of Medicaid, affects health care access.

Gabriella N. Aboulafia, Program Assistant, Health Care Coverage and Access, The Commonwealth Fund, will explain the impact of racism and ideology on states’ decisions to NOT expand Medicaid and who has been harmed by these decisions. Specifically, we will learn about how these decisions have disproportionately affected people of color, and how it's harder for people with lower incomes across all demographic groups - like some seniors and students - to access health care if they live in a state that has not expanded Medicaid.
